Velveteen Dream Takes Shots at Ricochet & “King of Marks” Dave Meltzer After “5 Star Match” at NXT Takeover

One week ago at NXT Takeover: New Orleans six of the hottest up-and-coming stars on the yellow brand competed in an excellent ladder match to crown the first ever NXT North American Champion. The bout was awarded five stars by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as was the show’s main event between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Ricochet, who was named the “Best Flying Wrestler” by the Observer in 2011, 2014 and 2015 somewhat facetiously used the opportunity to return fire at one of his opponent’s in the epic ladder match stating, “How appropriate my debut match on NXT this ‘guy from the indies’ Velveteen Dream his first 5 star match. You’re welcome.”

Dream, a former Tough Enough star and a WWE homegrown talent, has been making off-hand comments on social media about “indie stars” for the last several weeks, which most assumed was part of a long-term plan for him to feud with Ricochet in the aftermath of Takeover. As it turns out, we might be getting exactly that as a program between the two seems to have kicked off at the most recent set of NXT television tapings. Dream fired back at the former New Japan star, “EYE don’t need validation from the King of Flight (Mann) or the King of Marks (Meltzer). The Dream stole WrestleMania weekend. Translation: Dream Over.”
