John Doolen, The Sheriff of Hardeman County, released a statement today to WMC-TV in Memphis on the death of former WWE star Brian Christopher on Sunday.
The statement noted that Christopher was not placed under suicide watch while jailed as he showed indications of being suicidal when he was arrested on DUI charges, reckless driving and evading police on July 6th.
Furthermore, Doolen noted that Christopher was kept alone in jail due to his notoriety in the Memphis area as a professional wrestler and as the son of Jerry Lawler, who is a major celebrity in Memphis.
The report adds The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the 46-year-old son of WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler was found hanging in his cell on Saturday. The agency says officers performed CPR and Lawler was taken to a hospital in Memphis, where he died Sunday.

At the request of 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident involving an inmate at the Hardeman County Jail.
On Saturday evening, Brian C. Lawler (DOB 1/10/72) was found hanging in his cell. Corrections officers administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Lawler was transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis where he died Sunday afternoon.
Preliminary information indicates the incident does not involve foul play. However, the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Lawler was booked into the Hardeman County Jail on July 7th on charges of DUI, Driving on Revoked, and Evading Arrest.
