Dutch police are reported to be looking for a ‘scooter youth’ after a stack of tyres were set on fire at the newly revamped Zandvoort circuit on Tuesday evening.
The tyres were among the stockpile that would have been used to augment barrier protection during a race.
The fire sent thick plumes of black smoke high into the air which could be seen for miles around. Fire crews were quickly on the scene and eventually brought the blaze under control.
According to GPfans.com, circuit director Robert van Overdijk told local newspaper Haarlems Dagblad that the fire had been started by what he described as a “scooter youth”.
