St. Charles, MO — The 11th-ranked Minnesota State University wrestling team is set to compete in the third annual Joe Parisi Open Saturday at Lindenwood University starting at 9 a.m.
The Joe Parisi Open will feature 32 teams and other wrestlers who are not affiliated. This year’s meet will feature two divisions. The black division will be made up of freshmen and sophomores and the gold division will have the juniors and seniors.
The Mavericks will send 20 wrestlers in total to the meet. Sixteen of them can compete in the black division while the four upper classmen must compete in the gold division.
This is the Mavericks second open of the year. Last week they took 17 wrestlers to the Luther College Open. Five wrestlers placed and Darick Vancura took first in the 174 lbs., freshmen bracket.
MSU’s next action will be on December 7 at the Buena Vista Open in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Mavericks first NSIC dual will be December 20 at Minot State. MSU hosts its first dual of the season January 8 as it takes on #5 Newberry.
