BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana redshirt freshman Michael Lowman was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestler of the week in a release on Tuesday morning. Lowman won the Holiday Inn Open in Kearney, Neb. at the 285-pound amateur division.
A native of North Highlands, Calif., Lowman notched his first collegiate win as an attached wrestler at Augustana when he pinned Wayne State’s Travis Schmitz in 2:15. Two decision wins later, Lowman advanced to the championship bout.
Matched up with Cody Marquez of New Mexico Highlands, Lowman ended the match shortly after it started. In 1:27, Lowman pinned Marquez and earned his first career title at Augustana.
The Vikings are 2-1 in duals this season and are idle the week of Thanksgiving before embarking on a busy week. Augustana heads to Orange City, Iowa for the Northwestern Triangular on Dec. 5 before the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open on Dec. 7 then closing the weekend with a dual against South Dakota State at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
