Jim Ross Blog: TNA Slammiversary, Rumors Of Split-Brand PPVs In WWE

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog at JRsBarBQ.com on Monday with his thoughts on Sunday night’s TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view, the rumors of WWE holding two monthly split-brand pay-per-view events starting in September and more. Below are some of the highlights.

On his general thoughts regarding Sunday’s TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view:

“Watched TNA’s Slammiversary PPV Sunday night via the FITE TV App which worked perfectly on our smart TV. Solid show that certainly had its moments and one that I’m happy that I bought. The talents certainly worked hard and there was no shortage of great effort which his where success in any area of life starts.”

“The environment in Orlando Sunday after the worst mass murders in USA history just a few hours earlier there had to severely hamper the passion in the house. How could it not?

“Thought that there was a bit too much outside the ring spots and crash/burn scenarios. After a while one becomes immune to most those big stunts.”

On the rumors of WWE holding two monthly split-brand PPVs starting in September:

“If the rumored plans for WWE to run two, brand specific PPV Special’s monthly on the WWE Network after the brand separation are true, then that tells me that WWE is serious about keeping the brands separate which is the number one thing that I outlined as needing to occur for the spilt to have a chance to work.”

“It also likely means that each brand will have their own primary champion ala WWE World Champion and another title of a similarity that would easily denote that it’s the brand’s top prize.

“Keeping the brands separate until they are strategically blended for an event like the Royal Rumble or one of the other more established PPV’s makes sense.

“I’d love to see the two, USa Network shows be as uniquely different as possible from a creative standpoint as to not resemble each other much at all just like how RAW and Nitro differed back in the day. If both RAW and Smackdown are produced with exclusive elements it would seem to me that would increase the chances of being successful on their own merits.

“For sure, the brand split cannot produce RAW and RAW-Lite TV shows for the potentially game changing move. Love to see these two shows appear to be owned by different companies while both tries to increase their market share.”
