Iran’s President Rouhani Gushes Over India’s Diversity And Peaceful Co-Existence Of Religions

Religious diversity and freedom to choose and follow a particular faith have been a mark of the Indian constitution. It goes without saying that peaceful coexistence of people from different faiths in India is seen as an example of a near perfect pluralistic society. Many constitutions across the world seek inspiration for religious rights from the Indian constitution. Even a country like Iran that is a theocracy (where clergy are the key decision makers and can turn down the decisions made by the democratically chosen government) praises India for maintaining such high standards of multiculturalism over the years.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is on a visit to India, could not himself from gushing over Indian secularism and religious freedom. The President lauded India’s cultural diversity, saying multiple faiths and schools of thought co-exist peacefully in the county.

According to reports, Rouhani met with Muslim intellectuals, scholars and clerics, beginning his three-day India visit.

The leader clarified that Islam is not a religion of violence, but one of moderation.

“Iran wants unity, independence and support for the East. Iran wants fraternity with India. We do not want to have any differences with other countries as well,” said Rouhani who is on his first India visit since assuming charge as president in 2013.Click Here: Geelong Cats Guernsey
