For A Few Litres Of Water, Women In Rajasthan’s Sikar Cover Miles On Foot With Children

Water crisis has grappled the whole of our country, taps running dry in parts of rural and urban India. Chennai is one of the worst-hit regions with their groundwater borewells running out of water. Rajasthan also makes that list but its nothing new. Rajasthan goes through a severe water crisis every year with villagers flocking their nearest tubewells for water. In Sikar, a city in Rajasthan, sees women and children of Bagriyawas village spend half their nights of a month, queuing up in front of a tube well only for a few litres of water.

The locals there have to go through the ordeal of fetching water for themselves on a daily basis due to the erratic power supply and extreme water shortage in their village, a report in the Times of India stated. This happens despite the presence of two water tanks in their village.
