Father Of Navy’s Circumnavigation & 1971 War Vir Chakra Awardee Vice Admiral Awati Passes Away

Vice Admiral (retd) Manohar Prahlad Awati (91) died in his native village Vinchurni in Satara district Maharashtra on Sunday. He was 91. Admiral Awati was known as the father of Indian Navy’s circumnavigation adventures.

Awarded Vir Chakra for his leadership and gallantry in 1971 war between India and Pakistan, Admiral Awati was born on September 7, 1927, and was selected for Royal Indian Navy in 1945. He was specialist in signal communication and he served various naval ships such as Ranjit, Vendurthy, Betwa, Tir and Mysore.
