Lille are scouting Torino defender Lyanco

Gianluca di Marzio reports that Ligue 1 side Lille spent Saturday afternoon scouting 23-year-old Brazilian-Serbian central defender Lyanco during Torino’s 4-1 defeat to Juventus.

The Italian journalist insists that the youngster is on Les Dogues’ shortlist to replace the departing Brazilian defender Gabriel, having played just 12 matches for his current side so far this season.

Despite earning a contract extension with Torino a year ago, it looks very possible that the defensive rock will depart.

No formal offer from LOSC so far, just a name of their shortlist for now…

Neymar was concerned about injuring himself vs Waasland-Beveren

Speaking in an interview with BeIN Sports, Brazilian attacker Neymar reflected on his club’s 7-0 victory over Belgian side Waasland-Beveren.

“I was very happy to come back and play at home, with some fans as well. We are preparing little by little to get to the maximum then we will be in the finals (Champions’ League). The rest is not very important.”

On the aggressive nature of the opposition:

Yes we were a little scared. We are here for a friendly match so those types of things should not have been happening. We are here to prepare ourselves, but also to be careful. But us too, we gave them a little bit back, so there are no problems.

“There are two phases: nothing will happen before the two matches, the Coupe de la Ligue final against PSG and the 2nd leg of the Round of 16 encounter with Juventus. The squad will be the one that is available to us at the moment, knowing that we’ve lost two important players: Lucas Tousart moved to Hertha Berlin, and Martin Terrier moved to Rennes. We will see after the end of those two competitions. Then it will be time to readjust because things will be clear, we have needs.”

Ibrahima Diallo open to leaving Brest

Speaking in an interview with Le Télégramme, 21-year-old French defensive midfielder Ibrahima Diallo admitted that he was open to departing Ligue 1 side Brest.

“I don’t know if I will still be at Brest next season. I am concentrated on Brest and nothing has changed in my headspace. Aside from that, if an offer comes in, the club will examine it and I will examine it, and we will discuss. But, for now, I am happy to be at Brest. I am living things as they come, I am not getting ahead of myself, above all. It is not as if I absolutely must depart.”

Neymar: “Atalanta are a great team who played very well throughout the season.”

Speaking to RMC Sport following Wednesday night’s 2-1 Champions’ League quarter-final success, Brazilian attacker Neymar tried to sum up his emotions, with a nod to opponents Atalanta.

“Yes, this was a huge night even though it was very difficult. Atalanta are a great team who have played very well throughout the season, they were the surprise of the competition. We knew that there were very aggressive and that they pressed all across the pitch, that they would have chances. They really played very well, they have a very good team but we are very happy with what we have done. We also did a great match against them. Now, we will have to recover because this match took a lot out of us mentally and we are very happy to qualify.”

On if he thought about the club being eliminated tonight:

No. Not at all. I never thought about being eliminated or returning home. At every moment, from the warmups, we thought about qualifying for the semi-finals and nobody is going to take it out of my head that I am going to go right to the final. We took another step and another is coming, a very difficult one. We will have to do what we can to have another great performance and I hope that we will go to the final.

On the difficulties PSG faced:

It was very hard, very difficult to get here. We are experiencing things strongly, we really have a fantastic squad, we are a family so we know that with this spirit it is impossible to knock us out of the competition. I knew that there was always one ball that could arrive and then… The desire I had to win the Champions’ League was there before this match and it has never left. We still have two matches, just 1 in order to go to the final, and we are going to give our all in the next match. We are going to do everything to win.

“I can’t speak about numbers. He is quite simply a player who is coming out of a very good spell with Sassuolo. He has very interesting characteristics in terms of his penetration, his pace and his ability to finish off moves. We know him well at the club as he was on loan here a few seasons ago. At the time, I was in charge of the reserves, we got to know each other in certain instances, we know each other. He is a player who is one of our potential targets, they is enormous competition with very big clubs – we will see what happens in the coming weeks and months.”

Bordeaux & St Étienne interested in Monaco left-back Arthur Zagre

Signed by AS Monaco last summer for €10m plus a 15% sell-on fee clause, 18-year-old French youth international left-back Arthur Zagre looks unlikely to receive playing time from the Principality’s new manager, Niko Kovac.

Robert Moreno was a big fan of his and the Spaniard saw him as the long-term replacement for Benjamin Henrichs, who was always destined to depart in summer after coming close to completing a move to RB Leipzig already last January on a permanent basis. Moreno and Zagre, despite the limited time together, built up a strong rapport, to the point that Zagre told those close to him about his excitement to play the 2020/21 campaign at ASM.

Now, Monaco are ready to offload him, with the Croatian tactician having no desire to retain him – a straight loan, a loan with option or a permanent transfer – all options are on the table.

Bordeaux and St Étienne have made initial enquiries for the player under contract with ASM until June 2022, according to Foot Mercato. Lorient, who are already well-stocked in his position, have also made an approach. Interest from the Bundesliga has been there historically, but we are waiting for things to decant in a more concrete way.

Lyon SD Juninho: “I dreamed of signing Thiago Silva.”

Speaking to RMC Sport, Lyon Sporting Director Juninho confirmed that he wanted to sign compatriot Thiago Silva on a free transfer from PSG this summer.

“I dreamed of it. I tried to connect with him several times. I spoke with his agent a bit at the beginning but I understood straight away that it was impossible. For me, Thiago Silva is still one of the best defenders in the world, we saw that with the game that he had in the final.”

“I could have said to him: play 22 matches, stay with us for two years and afterwards we are maybe going to find you something else here to start your new life. I thought about that and I spoke about it with President Aulas and said to him that such a proposal could be interesting for him, because he loves football. But it was not possible for us.”

Houssem Aouar wants to leave Lyon – L’Équipe

L’Équipe report that Lyon attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar is determined to leave the club during this transfer window after all and OL can see themselves being reluctantly forced to sell.

However, the interest from PSG, Juventus and Manchester City has not translated into concrete fee negotiations.

The only team that OL have received an approach for Aouar from is Arsenal, who through Edu offered cash plus Mattéo Guendouzi – a proposal that was rejected. No contact since.

OL want €60m and nothing else – under contract until June 2023, Les Gones are in a position of strength when it comes to negotiating a sale this summer.

Thomas Tuchel: “We have to say it, we are killing the players.”

Speaking to Téléfoot Chaine following PSG’s 1-0 victory over Metz on Wednesday night, Thomas Tuchel discussed the performance of Angel di Maria and more.

On Angel di Maria:

If you analyse our starting XI, it was already clear from the beginning of the match (that he was the boss). He is strong, he is experienced, he is a key player for us and he has shown that again. That is why he is Angel and is our player, we are proud. I am very happy with him and what he has again shown.

On the end of the match:

At 9 vs 1… I don’t know if in the history of football, team has ever won with 9 vs 11 but we deserved it. I am super proud, very happy! We deserved it! It was possible to score several goals in the 1st half but we missed all our big chances and it became more and more difficult. But this victory with 9 men, we have to say that it is incredible, with an incredible mentality too. At the same time, I have to say, we are killing the players, they are dead. I am very worried that we will get injuries if we continue like this. Marquinhos, Angel and Mauro, everyone. Gana (Gueye) ran like a crazy person, it was exceptional and this will be a great memory for us.

On PSG’s difficulties dealing with Metz’s attack:

Yes but we play without training sessions, against strong teams. Like you have shown, we had 22 shots and 8 on target vs 1 for them. We are playing a Ligue 1 match, they are fast, they are strong and we had to decide the fate of the match in the 1st half if we were going to control things more easily. But we played with Abdou (Diallo) who has not played for 6 months, with Marquinhos who had done only one training session and had been sick with COVID-19, with Colin Dagba, with Mitch Bakker.

They are not used to playing together and that is why it is never easy. They did a really good job and we did not stop trying. There were also dangerous situations (for them) but that is normal. We absolutely deserved to win this match and we would have deserved to win the previous match. There you go, we have started today and it is difficult but that was already clear before.

On the LFP sanctions:

It is better for me not to talk about that because I want to be on the touchline for next game.
