Laurent Blanc’s agent reacts to England job rumours

Recently departed from PSG manager Laurent Blanc’s agent Jean Pierre Bernès has spoken to Europe 1 about claims that his client could be interested in taking over as the next manager of the England national team.

Bernès had the following to say:

“Laurent Blanc at the head of the English national team? We have not at all thought about that. For the moment, he is on holiday. We will see for his future. We are not going to do something completely random, we have never done things like that. We will see what presents itself. We are not going to take work for the sake of working.”

Covestro breaks ground for new aniline production plant

Covestro has broken ground in Antwerp for a new production facility for the manufacture of aniline. With the capacity expansion, the company intends to strengthen its European production network for the foam component MDI.

According to the company, Covestro is investing more than EUR 300 million. The new aniline plant is scheduled to be operational – depending on the volatile economic situation – in early 2025. This will create around 40 new jobs. The basic chemical aniline is an important starting material for many chemical products, including the rigid foam component MDI. The product is mainly used for the production of insulation materials for buildings and refrigeration equipment.

Increased energy efficiency

As Covestro communicates, the new plant will use state-of-the-art technologies that will help to significantly increase the energy efficiency of production in Antwerp. Currently, around 20 percent of the steam required on site is covered by using process heat generated during production. The remaining steam is generated using fossil resources. With the commissioning of the new plant, the share of steam generated from process heat is intended to double to 40 percent of local demand, and the use of fossil fuels will decline.

Current trends on inorganic-polymer nanocomposite coatings

A recently published review highlights the most important advances in the development and manufacture of advanced hybrid polymer-inorganic layered anticorrosion coatings for marine applications.

These newly hybrid anticorrosion systems are gaining importance with the premise to improve the efficiency of the widely employed pure organic coatings, while widening the available types of polymeric materials employed. These could give rise to innovative high protective coatings with improved characteristics (mechanical strength, conductivity, biodegradability) or secondary functionalities (self-healing, anti-fouling).

Graphene-based anticorrosion nanocomposites

In the review, four aspects are mainly overviewed, first, the use of 2D-layered inorganic fillers in coatings based on a barrier-type protection anticorrosion mechanism, with a special focus on graphene and its derivatives. Second, different modification strategies are presented, including covalent and non-covalent, always aiming to increase the compatibility between filler and matrix that would give as a result more efficient systems, due to 2D-layered fillers biggest drawback, their tendency to agglomerate.

Third, different multi-functionalising opportunities that graphene and its derivatives have to offer when introduced to these systems are reviewed, presenting some of the latest works reported in the past 2 to 3 years, while reviewing alternative layered structures such as natural clays or layered double hydroxides with their modifications. Fourth, different possibilities for multifunctioning these systems and their compatibility with graphene-like fillers are discussed. Finally, the conclusions and future perspectives on graphene-based anticorrosion nanocomposites are presented.

The review has been published in Progress in Organic Coatings, Volume 163, February 2022.

Damage morphology and force-deflection curves for impact loading of thick multilayer organic protective coating systems

chlorine tablets

Researchers found that the damage morphology of thick multilayer protective systems under impact loading shows specific patterns.

The response of organic coatings to mechanical impact is crucial to their corrosion protection performance, particularly under offshore conditions. The paper categorizes and discusses four different types of response during the high-energy (3 to 20 J) impact of a falling ball-shaped weight on 14 multilayer organic offshore coating systems. The response types include plastic deformation, brittle (compressive) crushing, radial crack formation, and lateral delamination. Threshold and transition conditions are analyzed based on contact mechanics relationships.

Reading tip: Corrosion protection coatings

The book “Anticorrosive Coatings: Fundamentals and New Concepts” brings together all the disciplines involved in the creation and use of corrosion protection coatings for metals. It presents the latest insights into the quality and chemistry of surfaces, the proper way to prepare them by conversion treatment, the function of resins and anticorrosion pigments in paints, and novel concepts in corrosion protection. As an added bonus, all the standards and directives mentioned in the text are grouped together in their own chapter for a better overview.

For the first time, complete force-deflection curves for this type of coating are recorded with an instrumented impact tester. The curves feature four characteristic points, namely a first local force maximum (FFS), the respective deflection at this force level (δFS), a maximum force (Fmax), and the respective deflection at this maximum force (δmax). These characteristic parameters are discussed in terms of coating system composition. Empirical equations for these parameters as well as for the damage size are derived. The results offer opportunities to quantitatively rank organic coatings with respect to their impact resistance.

Doozy Salts Lemon Berry Pie Nic Salt

Doozy Salts Lemon Berry Pie is a luxuriously soft pie dough mixed with sweet berries and tangy lemons.

Nic Salts are extracted directly from the natural tobacco leaf versus traditionally being made using a form of artificial nicotine called ‘free base’.

Free base nicotine can be quite harsh on the throat and can cause discomfort for some vapers. Nic salts are absorbed to the body far quicker than standard E liquid, so it provides a much quicker hit to keep your nicotine cravings at bay.

In addition to this, Nic salts take away that harsh throaty aftertaste as they stay smooth even after being heated by your vaping device.

Fictiv Launches New Agile Manufacturing Solution to Unlock Overseas Manufacturing

Time to read: 2 min

San Francisco, CA – June 19th, 2018 – Fictiv today announced its new landmark Agile Manufacturing Solution (AMS), a suite of production manufacturing services for supply chain and engineering teams who need fast, quality end-use parts at high volumes of 100 – 500,000 units. AMS is available today at fictiv.com/agile.

Fictiv’s AMS is designed to make overseas manufacturing more accessible and responsive to shifting market demands, with industry-first features like instant pricing and automated manufacturability feedback for injection molding and high-volume CNC machining services. With the opening of a new headquarters in Guangzhou, China, Fictiv applies its founding principles of efficiency, transparency, and customer-first service experience to AMS, powered by Fictiv’s proprietary cloud-based systems to manage complex data flows. As a result, product teams benefit from a faster, more streamlined way to get parts manufactured domestically or overseas.

“The realities of today’s antiquated manufacturing processes do not align with the demands of modern rapid product design cycles,” said Fictiv CEO and Co-founder Dave Evans. “Many products never make it out onto the shelves because of high upfront costs, minimum order requirements, or delays in working with overseas manufacturing partners. Fictiv’s new AMS unlocks access to high quality manufacturing in China, enabling more products to get to market quickly, affordably and at scale.”

AMS gives product teams access to the same fast, reliable service experience available with Fictiv’s original Rapid Prototyping Solution.
