At least 44 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in an IED blast targeting their convoy in Awantipora town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday. 45 others have also been left injured, 18 said to be critical, in the attack on Tuesday afternoon. According to initial reports a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the CRPF bus which was coming from Jammu to Srinagar. There were also reports of gunshots and grenade blasts following the explosion.

Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headed by Masood Azhar has claimed the responsibility.
The outfit which claimed the attack told local media houses that a suicide bomber identified as Adil Ahmad, a resident of Gundi bagh in Pulwama carried out the attack.
