The La Liga club had been making impressive strides in convincing the French World Cup winner, having promised him that they would also sign his 22-year-old younger brother Yassin Fékir as part of an eventual deal and include him in their 1st team.

Spanish sources have indicated that the Frenchman has reached a €6m a year gross wage agreement with OL in recent hours and the newspaper agree that his departure feels imminent, with his participation in the squad to face Genoa in a friendly tomorrow in serious doubt. However, his destination is not fully established.

Fékir and his team have decided to pause before accepting Real Betis’ proposal, with L’Équipe putting forth the hypothesis that he wants to wait to see if a club of better standing than 10th placed La Liga side Betis come in.

Sevilla have shown an interest in him and Lyon are convinced that Valencia could imminently make a bid.

However, Fékir’s camp are certain that another ambitious club, at least one, is set to add itself to the list of options. It is therefore necessary in their eyes to wait.
