WATCH: Dusty Rhodes Reveals How He Invented the WarGames Match
WWE has released a clip of Dusty Rhodes speaking in the past about the creation of the WarGames match, which will make its debut in WWE at NXT Takeover WarGames in Houston next month.
During the clip, Rhodes has the following to say on the origin of the match concept:
“What made the match happen was I was looking for some type of a creative out to where I was getting beat up by The Four Horsemen…and I had different partners, and we were fighting this war, and I had just come from seeing Tina Turner and Mel Gibson in “Thunderdome”.
And I seen this cage, and I seen this top on the cage, and I know through the years in my industry, the cage match has always been a big part – when you blew off matches – so I said ‘has there ever been two rings, with one cage covering both rings, with a top on it and two doors at each end, and two teams of five?’”
