John Cena To Face Kurt Angle In Farewell Match At WrestleMania 35?

Following Kurt Angle’s announcement on Monday’s WWE RAW that he will be having his “Farewell Match” at WrestleMania 35 next month, John Cena put up another “cryptic Instagram post” that has the WWE Universe buzzing.

Cena’s own WrestleMania 35 status has been a mystery leading up to this year’s big event at MetLife Stadium, however the aforementioned IG post has wrestling fans connecting the dots.

The veteran WWE performer posted a rare throwback photo of Kurt Angle on Instagram on Tuesday, seemingly acknowledging the WWE Hall Of Famer’s retirement announcement from Monday night.

For Angle, a match against Cena would be a good fit, as it is a match against the top name in the company that the Olympic gold medalist helped ascend through the ranks early into his WWE career.

The WWE televised debut of John Cena took place on the June 27, 2002 episode of WWE SmackDown, as he answered an “Open Challenge” from Angle. Cena would lose the match, however his debut was a memorable one and throughout his rise to the top, Angle would play a factor in several key matches and moments along the way, before departing from WWE when he jumped-ship to Impact Wrestling.

When he made his WWE return to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2017, it was Cena who was selected to be the man to induct Angle at the ceremony held during WrestleMania 33 weekend in Orlando, Florida.

Leading up to his match against another legend who was possibly on his way out at WrestleMania 34 last year, Cena posted several throwback photos and cryptic messages on his Instagram page. The throwback shot of Angle could be the start of something similar this year.

It’s also worth noting that in a backstage interview with Angle following his announcement on RAW at the PPG Paints Arena in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the WWE Hall Of Famer mentioned Cena by name when listing a couple of potential opponents he has in mind for his big “Farewell Match” at WrestleMania 35.

“There are a lot of names that were thrown in there, from John Cena to AJ Styles to Samoa Joe to Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley,” said Angle in the video interview posted on WWE’s website and social media channels after Monday night’s RAW (see below). “So, you never know who it’s going to be, I just hope that I do win and have a great WrestleMania moment.”

WrestleMania 35 goes down at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, April 7th, airing live via pay-per-view and streaming on the WWE Network. Make sure to join us here at Rajah.com on 4/7 for live play-by-play results coverage of WrestleMania 35!
