ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Jackson Graham (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Tanner Vassar (SO, Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) recorded runner-up finishes, two of seven top-four placewinners for the Augsburg University wrestling team at the St. Cloud State University Holiday Inn/Husky Open on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Graham scored a pair of wins over University of Minnesota wrestlers Tijani Karaborni and Faris Karaborni, before being edged 6-5 in the 184-pound finals by Luke Dodd of Saint John’s, the No. 8-ranked wrestler at 184 in Division III. Graham is now 6-2 on the season.
• Vassar also went 2-1 on the day to finish second at 174. He claimed a pin in his opening match, but suffered a third-period pin in the title match to St. Cloud State’s Kolton Eischens. Vassar is now 11-2 on the year.
• Alex Wilson (JR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) went 4-1 on the day to finish third, scoring a pin, technical fall and major decision along the way to improve to 12-3 on the season.
• Sebastian Larson (SR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) improved to 11-3 on the season with a 3-1 day, finishing third at 197, and Solomon Nielsen (FY, Luverne, Minn./Luverne HS) went 4-1 on the day with three pins and a major decision to place third at 174.
• Bryce Zdanovec (SR, Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute HS) finished fourth at 157, as did Brady McFarland (JR, Windlake, Wis./Muskego HS) at 165.
