The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (16-0, 8-0 NSIC) maintained its hold on the top spot in the latest NWCA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association national team poll, which was released on Feb. 21.
The Huskies posted 104 points in the poll with nine individually ranked wrestlers. McKendree was ranked second with 82 points and Pitt Johnstown was third with 69 points. Notre Dame (Ohio) and Central Oklahoma (61) completed the top five in the poll. NSIC rival Upper Iowa was ranked eighth with 44 points and Minnesota State was 18th with 21 points.
Individually, SCSU has wrestlers ranked in every weight class with the exception of 125-pounds. At 133-pounds, Garrett Vos was ranked second with a season record of 14-0.
James Pleski is also ranked second at 149-pounds with a 16-3 record this season and Jake Barzowski owns a #2 national ranking at 157-pounds with a record of 15-2 this winter.
At 165-pounds, Devin FitzPatrick maintained his #3 national ranking with a 15-1 overall record, and teammate Tyree Overton is ranked #3 at 184-pounds with a 14-3 record.
Senior Kolton Eischens (14-1) is ranked #4 at 174-pounds in the poll and leads SCSU’s starters this year with seven falls. At 197-pounds, Noah Ryan is ranked eighth with a 16-3 record and rookie Ezayah Oropeza moved back into the poll this week with a #10 ranking at 285-pounds. He owns a 12-3 record for the Huskies this winter.
NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Rankings
SCSU recently claimed its ninth consecutive NSIC championship and will now advance to the 2020 NCAA Division II Regional tournament in Sioux Falls on Feb. 29.
