Gophers’ receive draws, Brackets released for 2020 NCAA Championships

The brackets have been released for the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships and the eight Gophers qualifiers now know their paths to the championship at next week’s tournament.

Heavyweight Gable Steveson leads the Maroon and Gold at the top of his weight class after a 15-0 season with victories over three of the top-five heavyweight wrestlers. Steveson will face the winner of the “pigtail bout” between Northern Iowa’s Max Ihry and Clarion’s Tyler Bagoly.

Next up are Brayton Lee at 149-pounds and Devin Skatzka at 174-pounds who are both seeded seventh. Lee will have a rematch against Wisconsin’s Cole Martin, who he beat earlier this season, while Skatzka will take on Appalachian State’s Thomas Flitz.

Brothers Mitch McKee (141) and Patrick McKee (125) are the ten and 24 seeds respectively. Fellow Minnesota natives Owen Webster (184) and Bailee O’Reilly (165) are seeded at 18 and 28 with chances for revenge against Big Ten opponents they lost to earlier in the season.

Rounding out the group is Hunter Ritter who will take on Cornell’s Ben Darmstadt as the 29-seed.
