Perhaps the most interesting club to look at from a European football point of view is PSG’s results, so here they are.

If Zlatan Ibrahimovic stays, Edinson Cavani will make a transfer request

According to our colleagues at L’Équipe, should Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic agree to extend his contract with PSG, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season, then Edinson Cavani will submit a transfer request.

The Uruguayan has been relegated to the substitutes bench for any game of importance by PSG manager Laurent Blanc. His current deal runs until 2018 and his entourage ideally want for the player to be able to remain at PSG as the undisputed striker next season.

If that fails to materialise, then they will seek the exit door.

Michel wants to be sacked by Marseille

According to RMC, Marseille manager Michel asked last week Monday to be sacked when he met with the club’s owner Margarita Louis Dreyfus in Zurich.

The owner however refused for the time being. The media outlet with the report believes that Louis Dreyfus took this decision either because she does not want to pay Michel to buy out the rest of his contract (because the club financially would not be able to) or because she wants to wait until a new manager has been found by the club’s representatives.

This report furthers the depths of the madness that currently surrounds Marseille.

Novel plant oil-based polymers as binders for artist paints

A series of plant oil based polyvinyl ethers were synthesised and evaluated as potential replacements for linseed oil in artists’ paints. The paints showed controllable drying behavior and low yellowness.

For hundreds of years, plant oils have been used as binders for artist paints, but due to their slow drying, yellowing, and cracking on aging the binder market has shifted to petroleum-based acrylics. In the new study, plant oil vinyl ether (POVE) monomers were synthesised from linseed, soybean, and palm oils and then polymerised. The synthesised POVE monomers had colour impurities that were successfully removed via distillation resulting in essentially colourless monomers. The synthesised poly(POVE)s, showed drying behavior faster than linseed oil.

Better mechanical properties

Drying time and viscosity were tailored by varying the molecular weight of the poly(POVE)s. Compared to linseed oil, purified poly(POVE) binders resulted in significantly lower “yellowness” when films were produced with TiO2 pigment. Pigmented films from poly(POVE)s also resulted in better mechanical properties compared to those made using linseed oil as the binder.

The study has been published in Progress in Organic Coatings, Volume 163, February 2022.

Pascal Dupraz: “This is exceptional!”

Speaking following Toulouse’s great escape from relegation on the final day of Ligue 1 action tonight, manager Pascal Dupraz was visibly emotional speaking to BeIN Sports.

“Above all, the players with an exceptional mentality, truly exceptional. We have spent 2 and a half exceptional months together. I want to thank Dominique Arribagé, because with him, without the 22 points that he got, Toulouse would not have been able to stay up.”

Yann Bodiger, the young central midfielder who grabbed the last-gasp, dramatic winner, burst into tears when speaking to the same media outlet.

“I just want to say that for all of my family, for all my friends, it is good, we are staying in Ligue 1, but they have always been there behind me, it has not always been easy. All of my friends from Sete, from Toulouse, I love them very much, I want to thank them. But I am talking about those who are not often here, I see my teammates everyday. Thanks to those who are close to me, my family… [The goal] could have come from anyone, it was the entire team that pushed me, it is Martin who scored, the entire team did the job in the last ten games, and with Dominique Arribagé before then. [The free-kick] was honestly nothing special.”

Étienne Didot, the experienced midfielder who as frozen out for much of the season by, Arribagé, played a central role for Toulouse following the appointment of Pascal Dupraz.

“I think it was an exceptional scenario. I have never played in a final in my career, but now I think I have. On the bench, we had given up hope a little bit. The coach said, don’t worry, of course we are going to do it. We are little bit beaten up (when Angers went back ahead), but he remained calm. We believed in him, and with Yann’s goal, you saw how emotional he was, what a fantastic moment. Everyone was fantastic. We have done it, it is incredible.”

Lassana Diarra flirts with José Mourinho

Speaking to L’Équipe 21, Marseille central midfielder Lassana Diarra moved to put pressure on President Vincent Labrune not to demand a fee from clubs that are interested in him this summer because of a prior, secret agreement that the two made upon his arrival at the club for him to go for free in 2016.

During this interview, Diarra praised Mourinho, with the French international most interested in the Premier League this summer.

“I know him. I have had great joy under this coach. I like him a lot, but I do not know anything for next season.”
