When it comes to spelling and grammar mistakes, many people are unsure of the differences between the two of them. In fact, some may confuse the two or mix them up. The reason for this is that the differences between spelling and grammar mistakes may not be that obvious at times. Speaking Versus Spelling

 

For most people, it is very easy to speak very well or intelligently. Be that as it may though, whenever you ask the same person to spell what he or she said, they will usually end up making numerous spelling and grammar mistakes. Various words in the dictionary actually sound similar to others. Some words are often spelled differently than what they actually sound like. Silent letters can also cause problems for spellers and end up tripping people in their grammar. Still, while the speaker may not know how to spell either one of them, they will know when to properly use them in a sentence.

Spelling Versus Grammar

 

There are some that may think that when a word is spelled correctly but used incorrectly that it is a spelling mistake. However, that is not the case. Whenever a person intends to use a certain word but ends up using a different one through a spelling mishap, then that becomes a grammar mistake. Most of the time, the words are spelled correctly, however, they are used incorrectly or improperly.

 

One of the most commonly misspelled or misused words are the ‘Your and You’re’ ‘It’s or its’ ‘There, They’re or Their’ combinations. These words are called heterographs since they both sound the same but are spelled differently. Also, using one versus the other incorrectly can alter and change the meaning of the sentence altogether.

 

Here are several examples of words spelled correctly, but wrongly used.

 

Affect, Effect:

 

The drug did not effect the disease so the doctors had to change it.

 

In this sentence we see that the person properly spelled the word effect. However, they should have used affect –  usually a verb meaning to influence. Effect is a noun usually meaning result.

 

Elicit, Illicit:

 

The police were unable to illicit information from one of their informants during the raid.

 

In this sentence we see that the writer used the word illicit incorrectly. While illicit was again spelled correctly, the right word to use should have been elicit.

Elicit is a verb which means to bring out or evoke. However, Illicit refers to an adjective which means unlawful. These two prime examples show us how easy it can be to know how to spell words properly, but end up using them incorrectly in a sentence.

Avoid Making Grammar or Spelling Mistakes

 

One of the best tips you should focus on whenever you are faced with words such as these is to double check them for meaning. Heterographs are very difficult for most students to fully understand right away. What Is A Burr?

Here’s a general guide on how to remove burrs from metals and materials using a CNC machine keeping in mind that each project may have its own unique needs.

First, select the appropriate tool based on the material and the type of burrs you need to remove. Common tools include end mills, countersinks, and deburring cutters. The choice of tool will depend on factors like the material’s hardness, burr size, and the desired finish. It’s important to remember that deburring different materials on a CNC machine requires consideration of the unique properties of each material and tailoring your approach accordingly.

Here are some guidelines for deburring common materials like metals, plastics, and composites on a CNC machine and how to use the tools accordingly.

Deburring Metals

When deburring metals such as steel, aluminum, or brass, choose a high-speed steel or carbide tool designed for metalworking. Use contouring toolpaths for flat surfaces, chamfering toolpaths for edges, and spot-drilling toolpaths for holes. Be sure to adjust the toolpath to avoid overheating, especially when working with aluminum. You can do this by controlling the feed rate and depth of the cut. Determine the appropriate cutting speed (RPM), feed rate (inches per minute or millimeters per minute), and depth of cut based on the material and tool specifications and be sure to use lubrication or coolant to reduce heat buildup and improve tool life.

Deburring Plastic

Sinker electrical discharge machining (EDM) – also known as ram EDM, conventional EDM, die-sinker EDM, and plunge EDM – is one of the oldest and most widely known types of EDM. It is a unique machining method for making intricate parts with high precision, even in very hard materials.

This article will summarize what a sinker EDM machine is, how it works, and the reasons for using one.

How Does Sinker EDM Work?

Sinker EDM works using the same principles as other types of electrical discharge machining: an electrical voltage difference between the EDM tooling (the electrode) and the workpiece causes sparks between the two. High thermal energy created from these sparks melts or vaporizes bits of the workpiece and the EDM electrode. The debris is then washed away by the dielectric fluid.

Like other types of EDM, the sparksoccur thousands of times per second, effectively “cutting” through the workpiece. In this process, the electrode is slowly plunged, or sunk, into the workpiece as it “machines” the work surface to the desired depth. The tooling is then withdrawn and the result is an inverted mirror image of the EDM tooling cut into the workpiece.

In most cases, sinker EDM uses an electrode made of graphite and a hydrocarbon oil like kerosene as the dielectric fluid. While other options are available for specific projects, graphite electrodes and hydrocarbon oil offer a good balance of tooling durability, surface finish, and cost.

Sinker EDM: Benefits & Limitations

• As with any manufacturing process, sinker EDM has a mix of capabilities and limitations that make it better suited for some applications. The biggest benefits of using this process are that it is:
• Ideal for making very fine and intricate details without the need to penetrate the full thickness of the metal.
• Capable of very high-quality surface finishes, especially if using a second finishing pass.
• Well-suited to machining hard materials, like tool steels, tungsten, and advanced nickel-based alloys, even when applied to angled surfaces.
• A fully CNC process that requires minimal supervision.

On the other hand, the main limitations of sinker EDM are that it:

• Is only compatible with conductive materials, and does not work well with heterogeneous materials.
• Is a slower machining process than other types of EDM, and may be slower than alternative machining methods.
• Requires a new custom electrode for each unique cut, as well as replacement of the electrode after it deteriorates.
• Is often more costly than other machining operations, especially when it comes to electrode production and consumption.

Aside from a few subtle differences, sinker EDM has very similar benefits and shortcomings with wire EDM. The biggest distinction between them is that wire EDM can only complete full-thickness cuts starting from an edge or a pre-made hole. Sinker EDM however, can plunge the tooling electrode to any depth desired on any face of the workpiece. Wire EDM can be cheaper and faster for a wide range of linear cuts, but it is not suitable for creating blind features or surfaces with curvature in 3-dimensions. This is where this process excels!

Is This Manufacturing Process Right For You?

While other machining processes can often cut and shape materials faster or at a lower cost, sinker EDM remains an important specialty process. This is great for machining materials with high hardness values or complex details that would be challenging or even impossible to get with other processes.

This makes it ideal for producing long-lasting dies and molds, complex features like internal splines on motor shafts, and tiny details like ultra-thin cooling fins.
