Tottenham intensify negotiations with Thomas Meunier

L’Équipe report that Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their negotiations with Belgian international right-back Thomas Meunier in recent days.

The 28-year-old would still prefer to extend his current contract with PSG, which expires in June, but Thomas Tuchel is not a fan of the player and keen to see him move on, which is why currently, Les Parisiens have made no attempt to extend the former Club Brugge man’s existing deal.

There are a host of European clubs who view Meunier as a serious opportunity on the market, as he will be a free agent, but at the moment it is Spurs who are in pole position, proving “very insistent” with the player’s entourage.

If Meunier departs, PSG will be left with just a single right-back in their squad, academy product Colin Dagba, who Sporting Director Leonardo does not believe has the capacity to perform at the highest level.

As a result, the Brazilian dealmaker has begun conversations with Rennes right-back Hamari Traoré and Lazio player Adam Marusic.

Swiss prosecution rejects three recusal requests from Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Swiss authorities have this morning confirmed that they have rejected three requests for the recusal of various prosecutors made by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, accused in a corruption case linked to the allocation of World Cup TV rights.

In a decision published this Wednesday by the Federal Criminal Court, it indicates having rejected the requests for recusal filed by Nasser al-Khelaïfi against two federal prosecutors and an assistant federal prosecutor.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is being examined by the federal prosecution “in the context of the allocation of media rights to different football World Cups and Confederations Cups.”

The Qatari, however, has reached an amicable agreement with FIFA, who have therefore withdrawn their corruption complaint against him.

Al-Khelaïfi remains under investigation by the Swiss courts for the “instigation of illegal activity” allegedly committed by the former secretary general of FIFA, Jérôme Valcke.

Lyon awarded 1st Division women’s title for the 14th consecutive season

RMC Sport report that the French Football Federation has today taken the decision to attribute the 2019/20 women’s 1st division title to Lyon.

Jean-Luc Vasseur’s charges therefore win their 14th consecutive league title and enter the French football record books that little bit more. In the 16 matches that had so far been played in this league season, OL were unbeaten, with 14 wins and 2 draws.

PSG sat 2nd in the standings behind OL when the division was initially suspended back in March and will therefore advance alongside Lyon to the Champions’ League next season.

André Villas-Boas has told his players “he has not yet left” Marseille, despite Zubizaretta’s departure

RMC Sport report that Marseille manager André Villas-Boas has been communicating with multiple leaders in his dressing room over the last few hours, following meetings between him and President Jacques-Henri Eyraud about his future and the departure of Sporting Director Andoni Zubizaretta, who was initially responsible for AVB’s arrival at the club.

Steve Mandanda, as well as other players, have been in communication with AVB, who has told them that he “has not yet left” the club, but also did not hide the fact that he is unhappy with the current situation and confirmed that he has many disagreements with President Eyraud. Zubizaretta’s departure has so upset Villas-Boas that he has even travell edback to his native Portugal for the moment.

His agents, contacted, repeat that he remains under contract with OM until 2021, which therefore means that a premature departure would result in severance costs. Costs that OM might not be able to afford these days.

PSG won’t be signing Kalidou Koulibaly – Le Parisien

Le Parisien report that Ligue 1 champions PSG will not be signing Senegalese international central defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, affirming instead that the player is likely to move to England this summer.

The 29-year-old came through the youth setup at Metz, and recently bought an apartment in Paris, and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has a good relationship with PSG Sporting Director Leonardo. But the two clubs won’t do a deal owing to the asking price for the player.

The club’s summer priority is the acquisition of Mauro Icardi, which if he costs the full €70m option to buy, then PSG will not have much money left over for additional deals. At left-back, Alex Telles, the Brazilian from FC Porto, is receiving very admiring glances from Sporting Director Leonardo. A deal could be done for €20m, the outlet claims.

Minister for Sports goads Lyon President Aulas, invites him “to make a film”

Speaking in an interview published by L’Alsace, Minister for Sports Roxana Maracineanu responded to Lyon President Aulas’ repeated attempts to get Ligue 1 2019/20 campaign action back underway.

As revealed in our French Football Farce piece earlier this week, Maracineanu made inaccurate private and public assertions that inadvertently or otherwise contributed to the premature termination of the 2019/20 season.

“What do you want me to say? Cinemas will reopen soon. If Mr Aulas has different scenarios to propose, I invite him to make a film and to screen it in a cinema as it will be open to the public.”

PSG looking at possible Léo Dubois (Lyon) approach

Le Journal du Dimanche report that PSG are weighing up a possible summer move for Lyon’s French international right-back Léo Dubois.

The 25-year-old is under contract with OL until June 2024, but has shown himself in recent months to be the most impressive player in his position in Ligue 1.

Les Parisiens admire the player’s profile, especially because he would fit the required criteria for Champions’ League squads of having been formed in the country of the club’s origin: France – the outlet claims that PSG are concerned about meeting this requirement easily next season, with the departures of Adil Aouchiche and Tanguy Kouassi seeing them lose considerable local talent this summer.
