“Stop taking us for idiots”: PSG ultras protest against management during game against Rennes

During the Ligue 1 game against Rennes last night, the ultras of Paris Saint-Germain (Collectif Ultras Paris) staged a significant protest against the management of the club, among other issues.

First of all, the Auteuil stand of the Parc des Princes, where the ultras are usually sat, was left empty for the first 25 minutes of the first half. And the difference was notable: all three sides of the stadium were full but without the Auteuil stand, there was an evident quietness. The ultras also blocked the entrance of other fans to the Auteuil stand, as reported by L’Équipe.

Having entered the stand, the ultras spent the rest of the first half in silence, explained by one of their 20 banners displayed in this time: “A half to prove our discontent. How many will it take to prove your commitment?”

At half-time, the PSG players returned to the dressing room with the scoreline reading 0-0 and under a barrage of discontented boos from their own fans.

Other banners targeted the management, including Leonardo (sporting director), Jean-Martial Ribes (director of communication), Jean-François Pien (training centre director), Ulrich Ramé (general manager of the women’s team) et Fabien Allègre (brand director). These names were followed by severe criticism: “A management that stinks of s**t.”

Another read: “Leonardo, time to go?” having criticised the discipline and overpayment of uncommitted players. While President Nasser al-Khelaïfi was present at the Parc des Princes last night, he was not individually named by the ultras, unlike most of his colleagues within the Parisian hierarchy.

One banner provided more severe criticism, with allusions to the Revolution, Robespierre and decapitations.

This follows a statement from the CUP on Monday on social media, criticising a sporting management that is “incomprehensible at all levels,” as well as a meeting between the fans and management during the week which was intended to settle their differences.

Sergio Agüero defends Lionel Messi’s display against Real Madrid

As reported by the French media, speaking on Twitch, former Barcelona and Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has come to the defence of his Argentine international teammate Lionel Messi after the 34-year-old missed a penalty in PSG’s 1-0 over Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

“Leo played well, he broke the lines. It’s not because he’s a friend, but because he played hard. He was good and very active. In France, the magazines and newspapers killed him. I had an opportunity for an interview with a French magazine. But I said no because I support Leo Messi. Goodbye, see you soon. Now I’m angry.”

Agüero, however, who was forced to retire from playing earlier this season due to a heart condition, had been far from impressed by Messi’s penalty, which was saved by Thibaut Courtois at 0-0. Exclaiming on Twitch: “what a s*** penalty!”

Aussie Steelers moving on at world championships

The Australian Steelers have moved on to the quarter-finals of the World Wheelchair Rugby Championship. The Aussies are already assured of advancing to the knockout stage after thumping Colombia 54-42 on Thursday, following other commanding victories over Brazil, Canada, and Denmark this week. This set up a battle with Japan to decide the top of group B, with the defending world champions coming away with the 54-50 victory.“Mentally, this was the toughest match of the preliminaries. Being able to face the fourth team of the other pool will give us some ease physically as we move up in the competition, so we will need to make the most of that in terms of results,” Japan captain Yukinobu Ike said via WRWC.“I think it is a wonderful thing that we advanced to the knockout stage by winning all five of our games.”Despite this, Steelers star Andrew Edmondson said the performance showed the Australians were building nicely for the matches ahead. They are out to prove a point to rivals after their nine-year reign as Paralympic champions ended when they missed out on a medal in Tokyo last year after falling to the hosts 60-52 in the bronze medal match."We worked on a lot of things in that game. Thankfully we got a good lead and got the opportunity to give some of our guys a rest, so bring on the next game," Edmondson said."We're just getting started. We're doing well but I think maybe some teams have forgotten about how good we can be. "We definitely haven't, that's why we're here and we really building something."Australia will face Great Britain in the quarter-finals, who entered as the team to beat after taking gold at the 2020 Paralympics.Click Here: custom stamp die mould

Dortmund want Hugo Ekitike to replace Erling Haaland

As reported by Le10Sport, with the departure of their Norwegian striker Erling Haaland highly likely this summer, Borussia Dortmund are looking to Ligue 1 for a replacement.

Indeed, Reims’ 19-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike is of significant interest to the Bundesliga side. Despite relatively minimal game time this season after breaking through in the autumn, Ekitike has nine league goals so far this term and was subject to widespread English interest in January.

West Ham bid €25m but they were rejected, as were Newcastle who surpassed the €30m mark, bonuses included. It’s likely Dortmund would have to exceed both offers to convince the club to sell.

Kylian Mbappé and Mauricio Pochettino urge PSG ultras to support them ahead of Le Classique

Following PSG’s 6-1 victory over Clermont at the weekend, the capital club’s attention turned towards their next league fixture, Le Classique against Marseille next Sunday night at the Parc des Princes. With the context of the sour relationship between the ultras and the club since elimination from the Champions League, both Mauricio Pochettino and Kylian Mbappé urged the supporters to get behind them for the game against the league’s second-placed side.

“We would love the supporters to be with us,” said the league’s top scorer to Canal+. “We understand their disappointment. If they’re with us it would be amazing, if not, we’ll do our job anyway.”

Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentine boss had the same message. “Next Sunday against OM is not a bonus game, it’s a special game. The supporters have every right to protest, we’re a democracy. But we hope that they will be with us and that they will leave their disappointment and anger to one side. All that to demonstrate to the whole world a strong image of our club.”

Steelers win wheelchair rugby world title

The Australian Steelers have beaten the United States in a thrilling final to be crowned world champions of wheelchair rugby. The cat-and-mouse showpiece match in Denmark ended 58-55 in Australia's favour, providing some redemption after missing out to Japan by a single point at the last world championships in Sydney four years ago. "We were written off three months ago and now we are the best wheelchair rugby team in the world," Australia's captain Chris Bond said. "We never got a good lead but we just fought inch by inch. We held our nerve. We knew we just had to hold on, grit our teeth and keep pushing."Coach Brad Dubberley described Sunday's victory as "immensely satisfying" after his team missed out on a medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo last year.  "It's been a hard slog for our whole team over the past couple of years," he said."To have built this team and be successful in a tournament like this when so many teams could have won it, it is absolutely huge."The team's most-capped player Ryley Batt – named the tournament's most valuable player – was delighted to add to his 2014 world championship gold and heal the hurt of 2018. "I've been a world champion before, but to be honest, this one feels more like a fairytale," he said.  "Losing on home soil in 2018 really hurt. It really, really hurt. But to come back to win this world championship is a testament to our character."The Steelers reached the final for a fourth consecutive time on Saturday with a 56-55 win over hosts Denmark.Japan beat the hosts 61-57 to take the bronze medal, who had defeat Australia in the group stages.Click Here: Mexico soccer tracksuit

Lyon met with West Ham’s Issa Diop last week as talks accelerate

As reported by L’Équipe, Lyon are looking to step up their pursuit of West Ham United centre-back Issa Diop ahead of a summer move.

The former Toulouse captain, now 25, started the Europa League quarter-final second leg against The Hammers in the week and OL director of football Vincent Ponsot took the chance to meet with the player’s agents over a possible transfer. The meeting went well with OL willing to offer a long-term deal and an attractive salary.

English rugby giants Wasps follow Worcester into administration

English rugby giants Wasps were Monday placed into administration with all the players made redundant — the second Premiership club to suffer the fate in just three weeks. The Coventry-based side were suspended from the crisis-torn top flight last week after saying they were likely to enter administration.Confirmation of the widely expected development came in a statement from administrators FRP, which said Wasps Holdings Limited — the holding company for the men's and women's rugby teams, and Wasps netball — had "ceased trading with immediate effect".FRP said that 167 employees had been made redundant, including all members of the playing squads and coaching staff.Wasps, whose clash against Exeter scheduled for Saturday was called off, follow Worcester into administration, with the league now operating as an 11-team competition. They also face relegation, along with Worcester, unless they can prove a "no fault" solvency event because of the global coronavirus pandemic. The four-time Premiership champions were hit by a winding-up order from tax authorities for £2 million ($2.25 million) in unpaid tax and they also faced having to repay a £35 million bond that had helped finance Wasps' relocation to Coventry, in the Midlands, during 2014.The administrators said a small number of employees had been retained to help with the "orderly wind down of the company" and the operation of the CBS Arena, which is unaffected by administration and continues to trade as normal.- 'Dark day' -Joint administrator Andrew Sheridan said: "This is a dark day for English rugby, and we know this will be devastating news for every Wasps player and member of staff, past players, sponsors, and their thousands of supporters throughout the world, and anyone who has ever been involved with this great club."Our immediate focus is on supporting those who have lost their jobs this morning."Sheridan said the board and others at Wasps had "worked tirelessly" to find a solution but had failed to achieve that aim.He said administrators remained confident that a deal could be reached to allow the club to continue. It is understood that employees were told of the latest developments during meetings on Monday at Wasps' training ground and the CBS Arena.Wasps' playing squad includes England internationals Joe Launchbury, Jack Willis, who was named in England's Autumn Nations Series squad on Monday, Dan Robson and Brad Shields.Wasps have been ever present in the Premiership since the competition began 25 years ago, winning it in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008.They were also crowned European champions twice, in addition to achieving one European Challenge Cup triumph, and have fielded some of England's most well-known players during rugby union's professional era.The 2003 World Cup-winning England squad featured five Wasps players — Lawrence Dallaglio, Josh Lewsey, Stuart Abbott, Simon Shaw and Joe Worsley.Former Wasps fly-half Andy Goode tweeted: "Exceptionally sad day for @WaspsRugby as they go into administration. A club I loved my time with on and off the field. Thoughts with every player, member of staff and fan at the minute. Hopefully the club finds new investment and can bounce back asap."Rugby Football Union chief executive Bill Sweeney on Sunday threw the organisation's support behind a 10-team Premiership to help solve the financial crisis gripping the English top flight. "I don't know if 10 is the absolute number but that's the one being used now, but in that and the central distribution around broadcast and commercial revenues, clearly there's a financial benefit for fewer teams in that league," he said.Click Here: Kanken backpack

Marseille keen on Brest’s on loan Inter Milan striker Martin Satriano

As reported by BUT, Marseille are looking at signing Brest’s on-loan Inter Milan striker Martin Satriano ahead of the summer transfer window.

With Arkadiusz Milik not sure to stay put at OM this summer, the 21-year-old Uruguayan striker is seen as a possible replacement for the Velodrome club having impressed since joining Brest in January.

However, options are plentiful for the player with Lille and Lyon as well as English and Italian clubs also on the scene while Brest are hoping to secure another loan deal for next season. It would take a sizeable offer from OM to convince Inter to sell, meanwhile, the outlet say.
