The revelation that NXT Superstar Johnny Gargano was the man that attacked Aleister Black in August of 2018 came as a surprise to many WWE fans. The man known as “Johnny Wrestling” had been a babyface since he first came to the company in 2015. He had shown no signs of turning heel.

But now that he’s been revealed as the attacker, Gargano does appear to be an antagonist. The lines between good and evil have been blurred in WWE for quite some time and Gargano is no exception. He recently spoke to Uproxx about his shocking character change.

“I feel like I’m very justified in my actions, ’cause in my head, in my mind, I made a mistake, and Tommaso Ciampa’s NXT Champion because of me. It’s my fault, I’ve owned up to that, that’s my mistake. But it’s my mistake to fix. I’m gonna be the one to fix it. I have to be the one to fix it. Aleister Black unfortunately just got in the way.”

Gargano also spoke about his upcoming match with Black, which will take place at NXT Takeover: WarGames on Saturday, November 17.

“I think The Staples Center is going to be madness. I think it’s gonna be wild. And I think that’s kind of the beautiful thing about NXT, is we can kind of tell stories like that, because at the end of the day, in real life, the world does change people. Certain situations do change people. I’m not the same person I was, same person I am now, that you saw wrestling back in whatever, 10 years ago. I’m not that person.”

Black’s two month absence from WWE was actually the result of a real groin injury. That injury forced him to have surgery, which put him out of action. The ensuing storyline saw NXT General Manager William Regal conduct an “investigation” of the attack, which ultimately led to Nikki Cross claiming she knew who the real perpetrator was.

Gargano’s war with former best friend and current NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa concluded around the time of Black’s attack. Johnny’s character has been at somewhat of a standstill since then. It’s unknown if Gargano and Ciampa will reunite as a tag team now that Johnny is a heel.

Tonight sees brand wars take place as WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown Live go head to head for one night only at WWE Survivor Series, but which brand will reign supreme?

Three traditional Survivor Series matches will take place on the show, with the tag team division battling it out on the Kick-Off show, whilst the male and female matches will be on the main card.

Away from brand supremacy, there is one championship match on the card which will see Buddy Murphy defend his Cruiserweight Championship against Mustafa Ali in what should be an incredible match.

As well as that AOP will collide with The Bar and three dream matches will take place as Shinsuke Nakamura and Seth Rollins clash for the first time ever, Ronda Rousey faces Charlotte Flair and Brock Lesnar clashes with Daniel Bryan.

The WWE Survivor Series Kick-Off show begins at 5:00 PM EST and the main card commences an hour later at 6:00 PM EST.

As the preliminary round of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge comes to end this week, two top names have been pulled at the last minute, leading to a situation where a competition may end up winning the tournament (and the #30 spot in the Royal Rumble) without having to actually take part in any of the previous matches.

As previously reported, Braun Strowman was written off WWE television this week in order to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs in his elbow. He is expected to be out several weeks, with the hopes that he’ll be back before WWE TLC, but it could be as long as January.

Strowman’s replacement will be announced next week. The mystery man and Ember Moon will take on Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox in the first round of the playoffs, while Finn Balor and Bayley battle against Bobby Lashley and Mickie James to determine the semifinal contenders for the Raw side of the tournament.

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles has also been replaced at the very last minute. It is unknown why he was removed, although Styles did not appear at Tuesday’s Smackdown Live television taping. Instead, Charlotte Flair will team with Jeff Hardy to take on R-Truth and Carmella in the first round of the playoffs for Smackdown. Miz and Asuka will also face Jimmy Uso and Naomi.

Again, this creates a bizarre situation where both of the #1 seeds heading into the playoffs are “teams” that were never actually meant to be in the Mixed Match Challenge together in the first place.

One thing WWE hasn’t really solved is how some of these teams are going to competing in the finals of the Mixed Match Challenge at WWE TLC, as several of them will already have matches on the card that have nothing to do with the tournament.

PROGRESS Wrestling World Champion, WALTER has called out the wrestling world as he wants a brand new challenge for his title when he next returns.

After claiming that he has defeated everyone on the PROGRESS roster, WALTER has tweeted about wanting a brand new challenge and PROGRESS has pushed that message claiming it is not an open challenge and that wrestlers should throw their name into the hat.

PROGRESS Add Another Chapter Match

PROGRESS Wrestling has added one final match to its upcoming Chapter 79 show which takes place on Monday and will see the return of Travis Banks to the ring from his injury as he goes one on one with David Starr.

Insane Championship Wrestling has uploaded a full video of SAnitY member, Killian Dain’s return to the company earlier this month. The return was kept as a surprise and therefore the fan reaction is fantastic, as you can see below:

WWE has officially confirmed that Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will return to the blue brand tonight at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Things will be very interesting as “The Man” has been incredibly vocal on social media since being concussed and having her nose broken by Nia Jax ahead, effectively removing her from Survivor Series plans at the last minute. The question is, who will Becky Balboa be coming for first?

Also set for tonight’s edition of Smackdown Live is the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles, who hasn’t been seen or heard from since losing the WWE Championship to the “new”, seemingly twisted Daniel Bryan. The two are set to collide in a rematch for the title next month at WWE TLC.

The final major pay-per-view event of the year, WWE TLC, emanates live from the SAP Center in San Jose, California on Sunday, December 16th. There are currently four championship matches officially announced for the show, including:

In total that makes ten matches either announced or rumored for the pay-per-view, with six of them coming from the Smackdown Live brand, and the Mae Young Classic finals with one team from each brand.

Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match was originally announced for WWE TLC but after the “Monster Among Men” was taken out of action to repair bone spurs in his elbow, it is expected that the match will be pushed back to a later date.

In its place, reports have been circulating that the team of Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley will be involved in some kind of six-man tag team match, featuring several of the superstars they have been brutally assaulting in recent weeks. So far that means Finn Balor and Elias, but the trouble is that Balor may end up in the Mixed Match Challenge Finals, and they would still need to bring someone new into the program.

RAW Superstar Nia Jax, who has done nothing but talk trash on social media since breaking Becky Lynch’s nose and putting her out of action with a concussion, has suddenly decided she has no time for a “social media war” with the self-proclaimed “Baddest Bitch on the Planet”.

In all fairness, RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey did start this round of viral vitriol, calling Tamina Snuka a “Monolithic Mute” ahead of the “ass whoopin’” she plans on dolling out this coming Monday night. Jax fired back on Twitter, telling the former UFC icon to spend less time on social “and more time learning how to wrestle”.

As previously reported, Ronda Rousey will team up with Natalya this Monday night on WWE Raw to take on Nia Jax and Tamina Snuka in tag team action. The bout will take place just two weeks before the “Rowdy” one and the so-called “Irresistible Force” face off for the Raw Women’s Championship at WWE TLC.

Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion PAC (aka Adrian Neville) has been officially announced for a dream match for the ages.

The king of the skies will step into the ring against the aerial assassin Will Ospreay this coming February, for Revolution Pro Wrestling’s High Stakes event at York Hall in London, England.

The year hasn’t even begun yet and it’s already looking to be one hell of a year for Ospreay, who is rumored to face Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 13 on January 4th. He has been practically begging for a match with PAC since his release from WWE was made official earlier this year.

With new contracts for many of the WWE NXT UK Superstars, many of the talents have been wrapping up their independent careers this past weekend.

WWE UK Champion, Pete Dunne wrapped up his time on the British independent scene with one final performance at PROGRESS Wrestling, with Tyler Bate also seemingly finishing his time with the independents for now.

One of the PROGRESS owners, Jim Smallman thanked both Dunne and Bate for all their work with PROGRESS and for British Wrestling in general, adding that the sky is the limit for both men. It is unknown what the future is for Trent Seven as he is currently the Atlas Champion for PROGRESS.

Both Joseph Conners and El Ligero also finished up their time on the independent scene as well. Ligero commented saying he has loved his 17 years, stating he has had 2, 447 matches and has countless memories, adding that he is incredibly excited for the next chapter.

Survivor contestant Johnny Impact defends IMPACT World Championship in Homecoming main event

TORONTO | NASHVILLE – Johnny Impact is getting support from two former foes in his main event World Championship title match against “The Machine” Brian Cage on Sunday, January 6, at IMPACT Wrestling’s Homecoming pay-per-view event.

Nick Wilson – the $1 million winner of Survivor: David vs. Goliath, the just-finished 37th season of the hit reality TV show – will be sitting in the front row at Homecoming, which will be held at the famed Asylum Arena at the Nashville Fairgrounds. Wilson is bringing 10 other loyal Impact fans and even fellow Survivor contestant Davie Rickenbacker.

Wilson and Rickenbacker were aligned on the original David tribe, while Impact battled on the TV show as part of the Goliath tribe. Impact was the seventh voted off the island, on day 22, and the second member of the jury, which ultimately voted Wilson as the Sole Survivor and $1 million winner. Wilson was 13th voted off the island, on day 35, and the eighth member of the jury.

“I’m really excited that Nick and Davie will be in my corner for the Homecoming pay-per-view match,” said reigning World Champion Johnny Impact. “Although I was rivals with both at the start of Survivor, we ultimately became good friends and I know each will have my back. Brian Cage won’t be able to blindside me with Nick and Davie watching my back.”

Impact has dipped into the Survivor well for additional support in his Homecoming match. Impact has talked at-length with Professor Christian Hubicki about how to defeat a Machine.

The Homecoming pay-per-view features all of the Superstars and Knockouts of IMPACT Wrestling, including Impact’s real-life wife, Taya Valkyrie, who challenges Tessa Blanchard for the Knockouts Championship.

Impact and Valkyrie, married days after he returned from filming Survivor in Fiji, are looking to be the company’s first husband-wife duo to simultaneously hold major championship titles – and one of the first-ever in any pro wrestling promotion.
