Another Michael Hayes Racial Incident, Jeff Hardy Advertised, Chyna Attends Show

— Adam Firestorm of Victoria, BC wrote in the following regarding another racial incident involving Michael Hayes before a WWF pay-per-view in July 1996: “I’m actually not surpised. Remember the awful In Your House PPV “International Incident?” It was held in Vancouver, BC, and Hayes was at the height (if there was one) of his Dok Hendrix phase. They did a slew of media for the show, and on the evening before the event, he was at one of the more popular Vancouver night spots doing his thing. One of the first things he did was drop a few off-color, racially-charged slurs to one of the regulars (who could have torn him apart, but instead brushed it off).”

— Devin Cutting sent in the following… The following wrestlers are being advertised for the WWE Supershow in Abilene, Texas on June 28th, 2008: Chris Jericho, Kane, Jeff Hardy, JBL, MVP, Matt Hardy, Umaga, Chavo Guerrero, Finlay, Mark Henry, John Morrison and Kofi Kingston. — Former WWE Diva Chyna was in attendance at Antonio Inoki’s IGF wrestling show at the Osaka Furitsu Gym in Osaka, Japan on Saturday, April 12, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Chyna was simply there as Inoki’s guest and wasn’t involved with the show. WWE flop Sylvester Terkay wrestled on the show, losing to Josh Barnett via ankle lock. The show also featured a match between two former SmackDown stars. Rikishi pinned Orlando Jordan at the show.

JR On Mayweather's $20 Million, Morrison As WWE Champ, Triple H's Rep, More

Jim Ross is back on his official website with a new Question & Answer segment. Below are highlights:

On Referees in the Hall of Fame and moving the event to Friday:
Thanks for the kudos….refs are eligible for the HOF and some day I am sure one will be inducted. I don’t know the voice over guy’s name, as he is an out of house voice over talent, but he has some pipes without fail. Speaking of the Hall of Fame, I would like to see it moved to the Friday before Wrestlemania instead of the night before.

On TNA using parody gimmicks of Macho Man and Stone Cold:
Who cares? Stone Cold certainly doesn’t. Why should we?

On Jon Morrison becoming the WWE Champion:
Morrison is an exceptional athlete, but I think he has some more miles to travel before he wears WWE gold. He’s on the right track, nonetheless.

On Triple H’s backstage reputation:
HHH gets a tough rap without question. He stands up to the pressure well though, which is admirable. I know HHH’s father in law better than most and I can assure you that if HHH was merely average HHH would not be in main events. He’s there because he is good and has earned his spot.

On the hectic travel schedule:
I firmly believe that the travel schedule is everyone’s enemy. I am not a fan of being on the road 51 weeks a year I assure you. If someone said to me that you are coming off RAW and just going to announce the PPVs, I most likely would be disappointed, but would “get over it” sooner than one would think. I would suggest the bigger bodied guys have more travel issues than the others, but it is not fun for anyone especially when there is no off season.

If he would ever go anywhere else after WWE:
I have great respect for ROH but when my WWE days are over that will most likely be it for me as far as wrestling goes.

On Floyd Mayweather’s “$20 million” WrestleMania Paycheck:
Speaking for The King, we are happy you enjoy listening to us. We are taking the “high road” more these days but we will still make you smile occasionally, I hope. I don’t know the exact amount of Floyd’s check for WM24 but the $20M sounded high from the get go but no one can deny that Mayweather and Show were pretty damned amazing in Orlando.

Deuce & Domino Dump Cherry, SmackDown Rating Takes A Dive, Edge & Jericho

— WWE.com has an exclusive post-SmackDown video in which Deuce & Domino dump Cherry. Deuce & Domino appear to be aligned with SmackDown Diva Maryse now, as she is seen with them. After Deuce & Domino leave, Maryse gloats to Cherry on how she has everything and Cherry has nothing. Cherry responds to Maryse this time around though. You can see what happens at this link.

— Last night’s edition of SmackDown drew a 2.3 rating, tied for its lowest rating this year. The first hour drew a 2.1 and the second hour drew a 2.5. Despite the low rating, SmackDown still placed ahead of Fox, finishing in fourth place for the night.

— Winnipeg Sun are interviewed Edge & Chris Jericho for an article promoting WWE’s tour of Canada this weekend. Edge talks about his philosophy on being a heel. “I tried to take the humour out, I wanted to have no redeeming social qualities,” Edge said. “I still had to be entertaining, but I didn’t want to be overly entertaining. I’m better, as J.R. would say, as the antagonist. This is a character, but there are elements of me in it. The sarcasm is part of me ramped up. I try to get into the fans’ heads. When Raw broadcasts from Toronto, Canada, tonight, the cold temperatures will be nothing compared to the chilly reception Randy Orton will likely receive the next time he faces Triple H.

The newly-crowned WWE Champion battled the Legend Killer in a title match last week, with the broadcast ending in a blackout after a disgruntled William Regal pulled the plug on the audio and video. Tonight, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon will kick off Raw to address Mr. Regal’s actions. What will the Chairman have to say about the Englishman’s perceived abuse of power?

Before ruining last week’s main event for viewers, however, the Raw General Manager did manage to arrange for The Game and The Legend Killer to meet one another at Judgment Day in a WWE Championship Steel Cage Match. Before he gets there, however, Orton’s first order of business will be a battle tonight with Mr. Money in the Bank, CM Punk. Can the Straightedge Superstar take Orton to the extreme, or will he become just a bump in the Legend Killer’s road back to the WWE Championship?

As for Regal, The discontented King of the Ring saw his coronation ceremony turned upside down thanks to Mr. Kennedy. Not one to follow sovereign protocol, the loudmouth from Green Bay, Wis. came to blows with Regal, who then promised retribution. What punishment awaits Mr. Kennedy compliments of His Royal Pain in the Arse?

Also tonight, Carlito’s Cabana returns to Raw, and Carlito will have none other than WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as his guest. The “Rowdy Scot” was the host of perhaps the greatest talk show in WWE history – Piper’s Pit. After what happened between him and Carlito’s amigo Santino Marella last week, what will transpire when the Cabana gets “Rowdy” tonight?

It also appears that title-hungry JBL isn’t about to hang up his 10-gallon hat anytime soon. After handily defeating Robbie McAllister last week, the media maven made it perfectly clear that he continues to gun for the title, too. Not one to sit idly by, what does JBL have in store for those who stand between him and the gold? And what exactly will JBL have in mind for John Cena after he embarrassed the “wrestling god” at Backlash?

Brown: New era of F1 plays to McLaren’s ‘sweet spot’

McLaren boss Zak Brown believes the Woking-based outfit is set to benefit from the introduction of Formula 1’s budget cap and the upcoming changes to the sport’s governance.

Ahead of next year’s all-important regulation overhaul that will usher in a new era for F1, teams will see their spending regulated this season based on a $145 million cost cap threshold.

The financial constraint is a first in F1 history and aims to help level the playing field among competitors in the coming years.

But changes to the sport’s governance – the rules and processes by which decisions are carried out – are also expected to improve the balance of equality between teams.

While the changes will hopefully benefit Formula 1 overall, Brown sees the developments also playing to McLaren’s strengths.

“The new era of Formula 1 plays right into our sweet spot,” Brown told Motorsport.com. “The budget cap, we’ve had to reduce our spend a bit, but not to the same level as the other three that were significantly outspending us.

“The governance is better, it gives more power to Formula 1 and the FIA as opposed to the teams, because the teams with all the political power, with the previous governance, were able to better keep things shaped around their agenda. I think that gets neutralised.

“The revenue distribution didn’t make a big difference to us, but it’s going to make the sport more competitive. While we now have the ability to now be a big team, because we’re running at the budget cap, it’s also brought more competition from behind.

“We now have a better shot to catch the guys in front of us, but we need to pay attention.”

Brown believes the budget cap will put “six or seven teams” on the same spending level, a parity that should enhance the competition according to the American and help F1’s midfield outfits spring some surprising performances.

“Effectively, you’ve got six or seven teams that are all going to run at the budget cap,” he said.

“AlphaTauri is very well funded. They kind of keep their head down, but I don’t think that team is short of resources. Clearly Lawrence Stroll is investing a lot of money in his team. You then have Renault, who I think is at our level.

“You’ve got seven teams that I think are all playing with the same size bat, if you like, and I think that’s great.

“Not only do I think we have a better chance of getting first or second in the future, I think it’s a seven-car team race.

“I really don’t think you can write anybody off. But again, that’s good for the sport.

“I hope what we get to is more of an IndyCar-type championship, where your big teams are still the ones that win the championships at the end of the day, but other teams win races.

“It would be great if we went back to three or four race wins gets you the championship, not 14.”

WWE Talent At Black Widow Customs, Dreamer/OVW, Superstar Facial Hair

– There will be several WWE superstars at the grand opening of Victoria’s Black Widow Customs in Louisville, Kentucky. JTG, Elijah Burke, Jillian Hall, Jesse & Festus, Melina, Domino, Lena Yada, Jimmy Wang Yang, and of course Victoria will all be on hand starting at 4 PM Eastern. The WWE superstars are scheduled to be there until 7 PM.

– Despite WWE ending their relationship with Ohio Valley Wrestling, Tommy Dreamer will appear before OVW’s show at Six Flags on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky at 6 PM Eastern.

Hulk Hogan & Family Involved In Multi-Car Accident, No One Seriously Injured

Former WWE Champion Hulk Hogan was among those involved in a multi-car accident that shut down Tampa, Florida’s Bayside Bridge earlier today. The accident happened around 4 p.m. It was a seven car pileup.

Hogan was driving a white Mercedes. His daughter Brooke and estranged wife Linda were with him, according to the CBS news affiliate in Tampa, Florida. Although, TMZ.com is reporting that Linda arrived at the scene after the crash.

No one was seriously hurt, so everyone appears to be fine.

Hogan’s white Mercedes was damaged and towed from the scene. Traffic was blocked while troopers investigated, but the road was cleared by 6 p.m.

Live Notes:

— The crowd was hot all night. At first, Mr. McMahon’s millions got a pretty flat reaction. As Vince cut his promo thanking the WWE fans for appreciating his brand of entertainment, he won everybody over.

— As we saw briefly on television, a fan jumped into the ring during the beginning of the John Cena vs. Jeff Hardy match. The cameras quickly zoomed in on the action while four security guards restrained the fan and took him out. The crowd was very distracted during that match and many were watching the rowdy fan get escorted out instead of Cena and Hardy. Several readers noted that it appeared the fan was arrested by local police.

After RAW Went Off the Air:

— WWE Champion Triple H & John Cena faced Umaga and JBL in a dark match main event. Hunter and Cena won the match after they hit their finishers at the same time. Cena and Triple H then stared down one another over the WWE Championship belt. Afterwards, Triple H greeted fans at ringside and gave them some high fives.

Hogans Threatened, Latest On Trish Stratus, Huge Line-up For WWE Show At MSG

— The official website of Madison Square Garden has posted the line-up for the Raw/ECW house show scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd. A huge 10-man battle royal for a shot at Kane’s ECW Championship later in the evening is scheduled. Also, all of the current champions on Raw are scheduled to defend their respective titles as well. Of course with next week’s draft and whatever storyline twists incur between now and then, most of the card will likely change come August 23. Nonetheless, here is what they have scheduled at the moment: Fatal Four Way Match for the WWE Championship – John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Umaga vs. JBL; ECW Championship Match – Kane vs. TBD; Intercontinental Championship Match – Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho; World Tag Team Championship Match – Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Brian Kendrick & Paul London; Women’s Championship Match – Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix; Jeff Hardy vs. Snitsky; Mr. Kennedy vs. Lance Cade; 10 Man Battle Royal, with the winner to face Kane for the ECW Championship – CM Punk, John Morrison, The Miz, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, Chavo Guerrero, Bam Neely, Tommy Dreamer, Matt Striker, Stevie Richards; Live Event Host – Maria.

— TMZ.com has an article noting that police from Clearwater, Florida are investigating threats made against Hulk Hogan and his family. According to TMZ, the threats allegedly came from member(s) of the family of John Graziano. Police have listened to the threatening voicemails and there’s currently an “open investigation” regarding the matter. Furthermore, prowrestling.NET is reporting that a source close to radio personality Bubba The Love Sponge is saying he has plans to exclusively broadcast the threatening phone messages left on the Hogan family answering machine on his radio show tomorrow. You can listen to the FM stream at www.theboneonline.com, which airs at 6:00 A.M. ET in Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida. The show also airs nationwide on Sirius at 3:00 p.m. on Howard 101. Due to strong language, the FM broadcast will be heavily edited whereas while the Sirius broadcast will not. If you can’t catch it, TMZ will likely post the audio tomorrow.

— Former WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus’ Travel Channel series is scheduled to debut in September, reports PWInsider.com. The show has Stratus touring the globe. On another note, she recently filmed an episode of the Canadian TV series Family Business, playing a wrestling champion.
