Competing in front of the home crowd for the third time in the past nine days, No. 1 Minnesota welcomed No. 8 Oklahoma State to the Sports Pavilion last Saturday for a battle of top 10 teams. For both squads, the dual was the first test against a ranked opponent this season, one from which Minnesota emerged with a 19-15 victory.
Minnesota took six matches from the Cowboys, beginning with three decisions from No. 1 Logan Storley (174), No. 15 Brett Pfarr (184) and No. 1 Scott Schiller. Two Oklahoma State victories evened the score at nine heading to the halftime intermission, but the Gophers struck back with a pair of victories coming out of the break from No. 2 Chris Dardanes (133) and No. 3 Nick Dardanes (141). With a 20-8 major decision, Chris scored the only bonus points on the evening for the Gophers. No. 1 Dylan Ness (157) clinched the dual for the Maroon and Gold in the night’s ninth match with his 6-0 decision.
Top-ranked Minnesota will hit the road later this week to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational this Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas.

Life is a little sweeter for Jason Maurer these days. Smiles, never in short supply before, are even more frequent. For Maurer, now in his third year as wresting coach at Buffalo, a windowless wrestling room is a little slice of heaven.
And why shouldn’t it be? Barley six months ago, he was flat on his back on a softball field, a victim of a complete cardiac arrest at age 34. Staying alive was the only thing that mattered.

The plan as of right now is for Alexa Bliss to defend her RAW Women’s Title against Nia Jax at Extreme Rules in a match that she would win before going on to defend the title against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam. There is no word yet on who will come out on top at SummerSlam, but as soon as more information is available it will be provided.
Speaking of SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar’s return at the event has not been confirmed yet, but is considered probable as is Roman Reigns being the winner in the multi-person match so that he can face Lesnar when he returns. As previously reported, one option WWE has is for Reigns to beat Lesnar at SummerSlam to get back some momentum after multiple losses but for Braun Strowman to cash in and end SummerSlam with the title so that the fans don’t revolt and the fans go home happy.

Two of the biggest attractions in WWE right now have got to be Raw Superstar Ronda Rousey and WWE Legend The Undertaker. Ronda Rousey has already impressed a lot of fans during her brief tenure as a WWE Superstar, and The Undertaker has obviously proven himself to be a fantastic wrestler over the years as well. Although these two wrestlers do not compete as regularly as most WWE Superstars do, the company prefers to save them both for their biggest shows. With WWE set to return to the famous Madison Square Garden arena for a live event later on this year, it only makes sense for the company to prominently feature Ronda Rousey and The Undertaker for the show.
The Undertaker and Ronda Rousey’s involvement in the upcoming live event in Madison Square Garden was officially confirmed by WWE a while ago, but the company has just now announced both of their opponents for the event. Although she is still suspended from appearing on WWE programming in storyline, Rousey will be facing Nia Jax once again at the MSG show with Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss serving as the special guest referee. As for The Undertaker, he will be returning for a huge six-man tag team match that will see him team up with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman to face the team of Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin, and Elias. The event will be taking place on July 7th.
32 women are scheduled to take part in the Mae Young Classic tournament once again this year. While names such as Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez are rumored to be returning for this year’s tournament, there has been very little information surrounding possible new entrants for this year’s edition of the show. However, former ROH and TNA wrestler Taeler Hendrix has just clearly indicated to WWE on Twitter that she wants to take part in the tournament this August. Hendrix is now campaigning for a spot in the 32-woman this summer on social media. With all of the spots that are available for the tournament, it is certainly still possible that Hendrix could earn her way into this year’s Mae Young Classic show.

Most fans agree by now that the time has come for somebody on the WWE roster to defeat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. As reported earlier, the “contractual issues” that WWE claimed that they’ve been having with Lesnar lately is part of a storyline. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea behind it is that fans will boo Lesnar as he heads into SummerSlam for possibly his last match with WWE. Superstars telling Roman Reigns that he does not deserve another title shot is also being done as a way for fans to at least have a “grudging admiration” for Reigns once he finally defeats Lesnar for the title, which is now once again the reported match for SummerSlam this year.
When WWE launched the cruiserweight division after the Cruiserweight Classic tournament ended in 2016, it was announced that the division would be competing exclusively on Raw. Several months later, WWE gave the cruiserweights their own show called 205 Live, which airs on the WWE Network after Smackdown ends every Tuesday night. The cruiserweights are never featured on Raw anymore, and according to PWInsider, that decision was made when Triple H took control of the show earlier this year. Triple H reportedly did not want the cruiserweights to become overexposed and wanted them to remain protected. As a result, the choice to feature the cruiserweights only on 205 Live was made.
Fans may remember a WWE Superstar who competed for the company under the ring name Kaitlyn in the early part of the decade. Kaitlyn was the winner of season 3 of the NXT game show and she eventually won the Diva’s Championship before leaving the company. She took a lengthy hiatus from the wrestling business, but she has returned to the independent circuit in recent months. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vilet, she noted that she is having fun as a pro wrestler again, but she is hoping to transition into becoming a “sports-entertainer” in the future. Could the wrestler formerly known as Kaitlyn be making a WWE return? Fans should be on the lookout, especially with the Mae Young Classic coming up in August.

In a correction to a previous post, Sin Cara is in Japan this week with WWE, not on a promotional tour in Mexico. Sin Cara returned to the ring at WWE’s recent Live Event in Tokyo and lost to Andrade “Cien” Almas. Sin Cara vs. Cien Almas was set to take place on SmackDown three weeks ago but it was delayed due to a reported shoulder injury to Cara. WWE posted this video of Sin Cara exploring Tokyo:

Bayley finally snapped on Sasha Banks last week, but RAW General Manager Kurt Angle isn’t about to let the fracturing friendship between the two former champions explode into outright hostility just yet. Following The Huggable One’s assault, Angle informed each woman individually that they would have to undergo counseling in order to keep their jobs as RAW Superstars. What those sessions will entail, of course, remains to be seen. But either way, it seems this road has reached a fork as pivotal as it is unusual.

It was previous reported that WWE United States Champion Jeff Hardy will be defending his WWE United States Title against Shinsuke Nakamura at the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules PPV Event. Eight matches have been announced and confirmed so far, with one match rumored to take place. As previously noted, the rumored Steel Cage Match between Kevin Owens and “Mr. Monster in the Bank” Braun Strowman is pretty much finalized, with perhaps one more match to be announced and added within the next week leading into the PPV (perhaps Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin).
