Shane McMahon Update, Guests at NXT Show, 3 Hour Smackdowns?

Shane McMahon is still serving as the Commissioner of Smackdown on Tuesday nights, but it may be a while before he returns to TV. It was reported and later confirmed by WWE that Shane McMahon suddenly underwent surgery for a hernia that he suffered before his match at WrestleMania 34. The latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio released some additional details on McMahon’s health and return to WWE, and it was explained that he may not even be making appearances on Smackdown for a few weeks, let alone start wrestling again. After the procedure that he just went through, McMahon is not expected to compete until the SummerSlam pay-per-view this August at the earliest.
Fans all over the nation have been paying to see the stars of NXT for years now, but the developmental brand still brings in a few surprise guests every once in a while. It has become a tradition to see WWE Superstars and Legends sitting in the audience during the NXT Takeover events, but a few familiar faces in WWE recently attended an NXT live event. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T and Bruce Prichard appeared in the ring during an NXT live event in Houston over the weekend. With The Revival appearing at an NXT show in Oklahoma City before Tyler Breeze wrestling at a show in Jacksonville last week, who knows who may be showing up at the next NXT live event?

The battle for the television rights to Raw and Smackdown is still ongoing at the moment, albeit with a bit of a twist made last week. It was reported a few days ago that NBCUniversal may have decided to let go of Smackdown in order to keep Monday Night Raw on the USA Network. According to a recent Wrestling Observer Radio show, this change in the TV bidding process could end up leading to Smackdown expanding to three hours every week. The possible acquisition of the show by a different network could very well lead to WWE’s Tuesday night show becoming three hours long, much like how Raw is currently broadcasted. WWE’s new TV deals are expected to be announced within the next few months.
