EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Saint John’s wrestling finished 12th out of 15 teams at the 2019 NCAA Upper Midwest Regional on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Eau Claire, Wis.
Senior Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) earned his second trip to the NCAA Division III Championships with a third-place finish at 197 pounds. The top three finishers in each of the regional’s 10 weight classes advanced to nationals, which will be held March 8-9 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va. Dodd, who is now 16-6 on the year, made it to nationals as a sophomore at 184 pounds in 2017.
Down 3-2 in the third period, Dodd lost his semifinal match via fall in 5:41 to top-seeded Lance Benick of Augsburg, who is ranked as high as No. 3 by the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA). He bounced back with a 9-1 major decision over Cullen Bauer-Trottier of Wisconsin-La Crosse and punched his ticket to nationals with a 6-0 shutout, which included 2:57 of riding time, of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Beau Yineman in the third-place match.
Junior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.) went 0-2 Saturday to finish sixth at 133 pounds and end the season with a 26-4 record. He fell to Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Ben Vosters, who is ranked as high as No. 7 by the NWCA 10-5 in his semifinal match. Becker, who was battling an ankle injury, suffered a 12-10 loss to Ethan Harsted of Wheaton (Ill.) in the consolation semis and exited the tournament via medical forfeit. Down 10-9 and on top, Becker surrendered a reversal to Harsted with 17 seconds left.
Junior Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.) reached the consolation semifinal at 157 pounds following a pin of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Scott Schieldt in his first match, but lost a narrow 5-4 decision to Chicago’s Steven Bonsall. Novak went ahead 4-2 on a reversal with 1:03 remaining in the match, but Bonsall escaped and scored a takedown with 12 seconds left. He finished sixth with a 4-3 loss, the deciding point due to riding time, to Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Luke Smiley and ended the season with a 15-8 record.

Former WWE Champon Jake Hager made a surprise run-in at the end of AEW Dynamite’s debut episode Wednesday.
The former Jack Swagger and current Bellator MMA undefeated heavyweight came out of the crowd to help AEW Champion Chris Jericho, Santana and Ortiz, and Sammy Guevara beat down the Young Bucks, Cody, and Dustin Rhodes.
After delivering knee strikes to Nick Jackson and a Swagger Bomb to Cody, Hager gutwrench suplexed Rhodes through the timekeeper’s table which was brought into the ring.
The 37-year-old left WWE in early 2017 after asking for his release. He worked in Lucha Underground and some indies before embarking on an MMA career that began earlier this year. Hager has two first round submission wins and is scheduled to fight later this month at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun.
Jericho, Santana, and Ortiz defeated the Bucks and Omega in the main event of the show with the aforementioned brawl happening afterward.
After he was involved in an angle on SmackDown’s FOX premiere, it looks like boxing star Tyson Fury has his next WWE appearance lined up.
WWE has announced that they’re “offering Fury an open microphone” on this coming Monday’s episode of Raw:
WWE is offering Tyson Fury an open microphone… so, what could possibly go wrong?
After hopping the guardrail this past Friday Night on SmackDown in an attempt to confront Braun Strowman, the always controversial Fury will now be offered an open forum this Monday night on Raw to speak his mind following the explosive incident that saw a small army of security struggle to keep him from getting into the ring to mix it up with The Monster Among Men.
Tune in this Monday night at 8/7 C on USA Network to see if Fury accepts!
Strowman, The Miz & Heavy Machinery (Otis & Tucker) defeated AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode on Friday’s SmackDown. Fury was sitting in the front row and had a staredown with Strowman during the match. Strowman threw Ziggler into Fury, which led to the British boxer coming over the guardrail after the match. The angle ended with security keeping Fury from getting to Strowman.
The Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California is hosting Monday’s Raw. It’s taking place the day after Hell in a Cell.
Shotzi Blackheart has signed with WWE, confirming with an angle that took place at EVOLVE 137 on Friday.
NXT General Manager William Regal came out and congratulated Blackheart following a victory over Aja Perera, retaining the Shine Nova championship in the process. Regal did a promo where he offered her a contract. Blackheart shook Regal’s hand, accepting the deal.
Squared Circle Sirens reported on October 9 that Blackheart, real name Ashley Urbanski, had signed a developmental contract with the company. Blackheart has also listed her final indie dates, which includes dates for GCW, RISE, Beyond Wrestling and SHIMMER.
Her final indie date is with SHIMMER on November 3.
Evolve 138 takes place later this evening with Blackheart facing Savannah Evans. The show will be headlined by Anthony Henry facing JD Drake in a North Carolina Backyard Fight. Cameron Grimes will face Eddie Kingston, Curt Stallion will face Kassius Ohno, Babatunde will face Sean Maluta and Anthony “Sharkbait” Gutierrez will face Arturo Ruas.
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis retained his title against Tim Storm in the main event of the Power debut. Aldis accidentally clotheslined his manager Kamille during the match. The storyline was then furthered in the post-match interview, with Aldis shutting Joe Galli down and accusing him of doing “clickbait” when he tried to ask Kamille how she was feeling.
Galli, Aldis, and Kamille will sit down to talk about the incident on tonight’s episode.
NWA Tag Team Champions Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs vs. Eddie Kingston & Homicide will also air tonight, Allysin Kay will face Ashley Vox, and the show will feature Ricky Starks, Trevor Murdoch, Colt Cabana, and the returning Aron Stevens (formerly known as Damien Sandow).
Power episodes debut weekly on the NWA’s YouTube channel and Facebook page in this 6:05 p.m. Eastern time slot on Tuesdays.

Triple H spoke to The Independentabout the controversial decision by WWE to run a profitable show in Saudi Arabia under the condition that they follow Saudi Arabia’s rules that women cannot perform on the event.
“I understand that people are questioning it, but you have to understand that every culture is different and just because you don’t agree with a certain aspect of it, it doesn’t mean it’s not a relevant culture,” he said. “You can’t dictate to a country or a religion about how they handle things but, having said that, WWE is at the forefront of a women’s evolution in the world and what you can’t do is affect change anywhere by staying away from it.”
Triple H believes women will be allowed to perform on a future event. “While, right now, women are not competing in the event, we have had discussions about that and we believe and hope that, in the next few years they will be. That is a significant cultural shift in Saudi Arabia. The country is in the middle of a shift in how it is dealing with that – the position is changing, and rights are changing, as are the way women are handled and treated in society. We think that’s a great thing and we’re excited to be at the forefront of that change.”
Triple H did cite an example from a few months ago of Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss in the first-ever women’s match held in the Middle East. “You talk about the cultural shift in the world, and just a few months ago we were in Abu Dhabi and had the first ever match with women competing, with a crowd of women, men and little boys in the audience with tears in their eyes. The audience were chanting ‘This is Hope’ – that is cultural change.”
Would WWE agree to run an event in a country that didn’t allow African-Americans to perform, or gay people, or people not of a certain official religion, all in hopes of changing their culture at a future time? Or is excluding an entire gender different than those examples?

AEW has announced two matches for next Tuesday’s edition of AEW Dark.
Both of the matches will be taped this Wednesday before premiering on YouTube at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, October 29. Darby Allin, Jimmy Havoc, and Jack Evans will face off in a three-way match, while Dustin Rhodes & Sonny Kiss will team against Peter Avalon & QT Marshall (Michael Cuellari).
Evans vs. Joey Janela was originally announced for this week’s Dynamite, but the match was changed to Janela facing Kenny Omega instead.
Allin unsuccessfully challenged for Chris Jericho’s AEW World Championship in a Philadelphia street fight on last week’s Dynamite.
An Undesirable to Undeniable segment with Cody Rhodes and Marshall aired on this week’s AEW Dark. It covered Marshall’s career, his time in Ring of Honor and suffering a neck injury, and working behind the scenes in AEW. Cody revealed that Marshall would be having his first AEW match.
