John Mayer Shares Some Candid Confessions About His Sex Life — but Admits He Gets Rejected Too

John Mayer may have previously had a reputation for being a ladies’ man, but the guitarist admits he’s hearing “no” more often than “yes” lately.

On Sunday, the Grammy winner — who has been previously dated Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewitt — got candid about his love life on his Instagram Live show, Current Mood.

In a discussion led by Larry David’s daughter Cazzie David, Mayer revealed that his popularity in the romance department has dwindled over the years since he burst onto the music scene with 2001’s Room for Squares.

“I get rejected a lot since I became PR poison for people,” Mayer, 41, joked. “I really have to make a direct connection with somebody … I don’t think that people are into the idea of, ‘Hey, I snagged Mayer.’ “

“Yes, I could have sex with somebody at any moment. But being a famous man is somewhat similar to being a beautiful woman: there is access, there’s very seldom any desire,” Mayer said. “The older I get the less desirous I am of unsheathing new body parts.”

Though his experience is different now, the “New Light” singer has embraced the change. “I actually find that people not being into me brings a real level of reality into my life,” he said. “Whereas when I was in my early 20s, where I couldn’t really miss, I really kind of abused that. That’s now out of the question.”

As an example, Mayer recalled his experience seeing Scarlett Johansson at an Oscar party back in 2016.

“I used to go into parties and I used to feel really optimistic. But I walked into an Oscar party like, two years ago, and I found it really freeing. … I looked over at Scarlett Johansson, and for the first time in my life I said to myself with the clearest of voices, ‘She wants nothing to do with you.’ And I found that really kind of relieving,” Mayer recalled. “I went, ‘Yeah, leave everybody alone.’ And I had a great time at the party. I didn’t bother anybody. Because I know now that by default, most people aren’t into me. I don’t even try and I actually like that now.”

Jason Merritt

He added: “I won’t name names but not so long ago I gave a girl my number and she said, ‘I probably won’t use it.’ I actually think it’s awesome too because I would have ruined her.”

That wasn’t always the case for Mayer, who begrudgingly admitted — at the urging of David, who initially asked if his number was over 800, then 500 — to sleeping with “less than 500” women.

“Are you guys surprised? Are you surprised that I have slept with less than 800 people?!” an incredulous Mayer asked. “I think my fans know me.”

Asked if he’s ever used his music to help him hook up with a girl, Mayer told the 24-year-old writer and comedian that he “probably did” in his early 20s — though that didn’t make it “any less from the heart.”

And though Mayer was a little taken aback by David’s questions, he had no problem discussing how often he’s asked to tell someone if their “body is a wonderland.”

“This f—ing song of mine,” Mayer said, discussing his 2001 tune. “Three and a half minutes at the age of 21 … The same thing that makes [that song] very direct and sort of piercing also makes it fun for drunk men to yell at me down the street. [They’re] still quoting ‘Wonderland’ and I’m still trying to live it down.”

“Though at this age, it’s kind of fun right now,” Mayer confessed. “I kind of embrace it. We all know I’m not the guy who wrote that song anymore.”

Current Mood is streamed live Sundays at 11 p.m. EST on Mayer’s Instagram.

Taylor Swift Will Perform at the AMAs for the First Time Since 2014

Taylor Swift is returning to the American Music Awards in a big way — and her cat Meredith is unimpressed.

In a black shirt with bold red lips, the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer, 28, announced her big news in an Instagram video on Tuesday — which was first shared on Good Morning America.

“Good morning America. It’s Taylor,” Swift started. “I just wanted to say I’m going to be opening up the American Music Awards with a performance. So I wanted to —”

Losing interest, Meredith started to walk away. Swift quipped, “Don’t be too excited about it, my God.”

Swift captioned the post, “I’m opening up the American Music Awards with a performance of ‘I Did Something Bad.’ Meredith is not excited, but I am.”

Swift, the winner of 19 AMAs in the past, joins a jam-packed lineup at the AMAs, which Tracee Ellis Ross, an executive producer of the ceremony, is hosting again.

Donald Trump Just Weighed in on the “Fake Melania” Conspiracy

Back in 2017, Melania Trump stepped out with Donald, but some viewers weren’t buying it was her. Pointing out a possible difference in facial features from the First Lady, social media users quickly dubbed the rumored body double at Trump’s side “Fake Melania.”

In the following months, the Fake Melania buzz died down — but just when we thought we were out, she pulled us back in …

Earlier this week, photos from a recent outing reignited the viral conspiracy theory:

And this time, Trump himself weighed in, tweeting, “The Fake News photoshopped pictures of Melania, then propelled conspiracy theories that it’s actually not her by my side in Alabama and other places. They are only getting more deranged with time!”

The thing is, though his dedication to blaming everything on the media is impressive, Fake Melania is a social media phenomenon that was started by the people — not the media. But I guess we can take this tweet as an admission that he, too, really doesn’t think those photos look like his wife?

At this rate, #FakeMelania will be trending through 2020.

Kate Middleton’s First Royal Duty Post-Maternity Leave Has Been Announced

Take a short break from the nightmare political news cycle happening right now, because we have some reprieve in that one of our favorite royals is finally returning to the spotlight.

Kensington Palace announced Wednesday that Kate Middleton will make her grand return to official royal visits on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground, and we’re triple circling the date on our calendars.

In case you somehow missed it, Middleton has been out of sight lately while on maternity leave, and we’ve missed seeing her around.

Middleton gave birth to baby Prince Louis back in April, and the predictions that she’d be away until October turned out to be spot on.

Still, being on leave didn’t mean we didn’t see the Duchess of Cambridge at all. She still attended her brother-in-law Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May (just a few weeks after giving birth, give her props). It was the quickest we’ve ever seen Kate after she’s had a baby (obviously not including those mind-boggling post-hospital appearances).

With Prince George, it was six weeks after he was born before we saw Middleton again, and with Princess Charlotte, it was two entire months.

Glad to see she’s getting back to it.

Here’s How Stars Paid Tribute to Time’s Up on the 2019 Golden Globes Red Carpet

The ribbons symbolize that the Time’s Up supporters are tied together in their “joint commitment to create a safe, fair and dignified workplaces for women of all kinds,” according to Variety

“These ribbons are a reminder to the world that our momentum as women continues to grow,” said Ai Jen Poo, director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, who attended the show with Roma director Alfonso Cuarón. “That’s why I’m so honored to have been invited by Alfonso Cuarón to the Golden Globes this year to represent the millions of domestic workers who continue to fight for basic recognition and dignity. Across industries, we know the power of this movement is unstoppable.”

The political accessories are also a nod to the organization’s newly launched TIME’s UPx2 initiative that was created to “double the number of women in leadership and across other spaces were women are underrepresented.”

The Time’s Up merchandise will be available for purchase on Sunday on their website, 100 percent of net proceeds supporting Time’s Up, funding the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund and other initiatives to achieve safe, fair and dignified work for women of all kinds.

In the year since they launched, more than 3,800 women (and men) have reached out for help and as of last October, the organization has raised over $22 million to provide legal aid to sexual assault victims.

Sorry, Riverdale Fans, Lili Reinhart Is Over Dark Betty

Riverdale fans know Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, the classic girl next door who, thanks to top-notch sleuthing skills, can hunt down a criminal faster than the local police. Throughout the show’s first two seasons, Betty worked overtime to give us some much-appreciated and over-the-top drama. We saw her fall in love with Jughead Jones, the resident bad boy from the wrong side of town. We witnessed her take down the mysterious Black Hood serial killer (a revelation that ultimately hit way too close to home for the high-schooler). And, of course, we watched her hatch an unforgettable revenge scheme, during which she revealed her sinister alter-ego, Dark Betty.

Now, with season three underway, Betty has reached yet another dramatic milestone. She’s been named queen of the Southside Serpents, the long-running gang now headed up by her boyfriend Jughead (played by Reinhart’s rumored real-life boyfriend, Cole Sprouse). While leading a dangerous gang of thugs may seem like the perfect opportunity for Betty to let out more of her inner badass, don’t expect her to hit the hot tub and break out her black wig again any time soon.

CW

“I think we’ve put the idea of Dark Betty to bed — or at least, we are trying to,” Reinhart tells InStyle. “At the end of the second season, we saw Betty confront her dad, and that was symbolic of her confronting the darkness that was within her. So although this girl still has demons and darkness inside, she’s not afraid of it. She doesn’t need to mask it behind a wig or an outfit — that part is over. She’s a complex human being with goodness and badness.”

With each new episode, we’ll see Betty attempt to work her way through a fresh set of difficult circumstances. “Betty has a lot on her plate this season,” says Reinhart. “She’s investigating the Gargoyle King with Jughead, she’s trying to figure out what’s behind The Farm that has changed her mom so drastically, and then you also see her battling her mom and [her sister] Polly directly in the middle of the season. You see her struggle deeply but you also see her as the incredible hero that she is. Betty saves herself from the situations that she’s put in — she never relies on anyone to rescue her. That’s what I love so much about her.”

CW

Portraying such a layered character is natural for Reinhart, who also stars in the thriller Galveston, now playing in theaters and available to watch on demand. “I like darker things,” she says. “I enjoy watching thrillers and horror movies and dramas. I don’t immediately gravitate towards comedies or lighter, happy romance movies — that’s just not what really entertains me. I find that you can completely immerse yourself in a thriller movie a lot; I can immerse myself in a movie like that, just for whatever reason. So I really like to be a part of that kind of stuff.”

A dark plot was part of what drew Reinhart to Galveston, which follows a hitman (Ben Foster) and a former captive (Elle Fanning) who are on the run together. “It definitely was quite different from Riverdale,” says Reinhart. “It has a rawness to it and grit that you don’t really get to see in Riverdale, because Riverdale is kind of like this place where, although shitty things are happening, everything’s still kind of perfect. Everyone still looks beautiful, not a hair is out of place. And I think with Galveston, you could show that vulnerable, not-so-picture-perfect side of yourself on film, which I appreciate.”

Reinhart only makes a brief appearance in Galveston, starring in a flash-forward that’s part of the film’s ending. “I play a very small part, but it is a powerful part,” she says. “It is a powerful scene that I’m in at the end of the film, and because it’s not out yet, I feel like a lot of people don’t necessarily know how I’m involved in it. But it almost feels like I have a tiny little cameo at the end of it — that’s kind of how I think of it.”

Courtesy

Her screen time in Galveston is certainly stark in contrast to that of Riverdale — but filming opposite only one other actor wasn’t as unusual for Reinhart as you might think. “With Betty, this season in particular, I actually have done a lot of stuff by myself — a lot of one-on-one scenes,” she says. “So that part of it wasn’t actually that different — but the whole production of it was.”

For starters, Reinhart wasn’t around when filming began. “I went in on the last day of production to shoot my scene,” she says. “People were tired and had been working really hard, long days for the past month or however long they were shooting, but I was excited.” Right off the bat, the overall vibe of the project was different for Reinhart. “On TV, I play Betty — one of the leading roles — and I know everybody when I walk into work every day,” she says. “It’s more of a routine, whereas walking into this, it was very unfamiliar territory. So it was different in that sense, because you’re going into a completely new environment with people you don’t know.”

It was a far cry from her return to the Riverdale set this summer. “We’ve been back at it for awhile — we started shooting our premiere in July — but the minute you come back, it feels like you never left,” says Reinhart. “It’s just kind of jumping into familiar territory and doing it all over again; it’s comforting.”

While the Riverdale cast is constantly sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of their bonding moments, Reinhart is reluctant to confirm that life on set is always as cozy and care-free as we imagine. “I mean, it definitely does feel like work,” she says. “On a day-to-day basis, I still feel like I’m going to work — but in the best way. When we all have scenes together, and we’re doing something playful or fun, I feel very lucky to be a part of that and be able to film with all my friends. I have the best job; there’s no complaints there. It’s hard work and long days, so it’s not all happiness all the time — but we all do love each other very much and get along very well.”

And there you have it: Dark Betty really is gone.

Qatar 2022 World Cup logo reflects move to winter tournament

Flashed on big screens and projected onto landmarks worldwide, the 2022 Qatar World Cup logo was revealed Tuesday with a design that reflects both the tournament’s compact infrastructure and winter schedule.

Using the colors of the Qatari flag, the white emblem is set against a maroon background and it finally provides an image for soccer’s most controversial tournament beyond construction sites.

It was inspired by the contours of the World Cup trophy with the unbroken loop depicting a figure of eight — the number of stadiums built for the World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA said the design also draws “inspiration from a traditional woolen shawl,” a winter garment reflecting the World Cup being played in November and December 2022 to avoid the fierce summer heat in June and July when the tournament is usually played.

The reveal came at 2022 local time (8:22 pm) in Doha and the image was projected onto buildings in the Qatari capital, including the Al Zubarah Fort, and appeared at sites in Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

Among the international sites where the logo was displayed on Tuesday were the Arch of Peace in Milan, trains stations in Paris and Rio de Janeiro and Times Square in New York.

Qatar won a FIFA vote in 2010 that has been dogged by controversy. A FIFA investigation found that some of Qatar’s conduct “may not have met the standards” required while concluding there was no “evidence of any improper activity by the bid team”.

Working conditions and rights for migrant laborers building the stadiums in Qatar were also criticized, forcing standards to be raised.

Stella McCartney Launched a Bridal Line That Includes Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress

If you want to feel like a literal princess on your wedding day (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?) you might want to turn your attention toward Stella McCartney’s new bridal line. The label has released its first-ever bridal collection called “Made with Love,” and it includes a dress you’ve definitely seen before.

Meghan Markle’s Stella McCartney reception dress is one of the 17 looks, which means it’s basically Christmas for Duchess of Sussex stans.

As every royal fan knows, Markle walked down the aisle in a Givenchy gown, but she slipped into something that bared her shoulders afterwords. Her high-halter backless Stella McCartney dress was trendy to a tee, so it’s no wonder McCartney decided to recreate it for the masses.

“When I designed this collection, I took some classic Stella McCartney pieces and relooked at them and reenergized them with the spirit that is now in the future of weddings — the modern bride’s approach to her dress,” McCartney told Vogue.

“It was important to me to embody the core values of our house, so the collection has elements of sustainability as well. It truly reflects different ages, and I think so many different women come to us, so I really wanted to reflect that in the bridal offering … It is not just for one type of bride; it is truly made with love.”

The time of their lives

Since 2006, veteran director Zhang Tongdao has trained his lens on a dozen children, continuously documenting their failures and fortunes for a series of films and TV shows, Wang Kaihao reports.

In justifying the length of time it has taken to complete his latest project, veteran director Zhang Tongdao will probably point to his American counterpart, Richard Linklater, who spent 12 years filming the drama, Boyhood.

However, while Linklater’s piece was fictional, Zhang’s long-term production about human growth is compellingly real.

Since 2006, Zhang’s lens has followed more than a dozen young people who were born after 2000-those often referred to globally as Generation Z, or Gen Z, but colloquially known as the “post-2000” or “post-00” generation in China. When he first started the project, the children were attending a kindergarten in Beijing. However, as his camera kept rolling, audiences grew up with them as the magic of time unraveled their real-life dramas.

With the footage he has collected over the past 12 years, he has released two films and one TV documentary-Kids Kingdom in 2009, Post-00 Generation (TV) in 2017 and Born in 2000 in 2019-recording different periods of the children’s lives, from kindergarten, to middle school, then to high school and college.

“Time is the best screenwriter,” explains 54-year-old Zhang, who also works as a media professor at Beijing Normal University. “All I need to do is record.”

E-commerce giant strikes gold in cultural creative industries

Do you remember the innovative and irresistible starry lollipops, a hit snack that swept China’s social media during the past Qixi festival, (aka Chinese Valentine’s Day)?

The credit for this business miracle goes to Tmall. Backed by Chinese ecommerce behemoth Alibaba, Tmall boasts 500 million monthly active users as of Feb 2018, making it the world’s second-largest e-commerce website after Taobao, which it spun off from in 2008.

Thanks to the facilitation of the Tmall Neo-Culture Creativity Plan 1.0 launched in January, Crafted, a hand-made sugar brand, has partnered with China’s Lunar Exploration Project in a bid to woo more customers.

The day the starry lollipop was launched on Tmall, more than 100,000 boxes were sold.

Another crossover money spinner generated by this plan is the spring tea branded “The Four Scholars”.
