The former Red Devil is less than impressed with how players conducted themselves while he was at the helm

Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on some of the players he oversaw as assistant coach of the Republic of Ireland.  

The former Manchester United player had been Martin O’Neill’s partner in charge of the national team from 2013 to 2018 before both left their roles in November last year following a poor run of results.  

Not one to keep quiet, Keane feels he and O’Neill were let down by some of their players, who he believes thought far too highly of themselves.  

“I’ll give you an example. Jon Walters, the last two or three years – Jon does a lot of talking, it’s amazing. Harry Arter, he went to Cardiff on loan, got relegated. Wardy can’t get in the Stoke team, at the moment, bottom of the league,” Keane said while speaking at an Off The Ball event in Dublin.  

“Imagine if Jon won a trophy. He talks a good game. He goes on the TV, on about how he was harshly treated by me. Not kicking a ball for Burnley for two or three years. 

“On TV, crying about his family situation. You know, how about lying low for a while, taking it easy? Have a look at his medals? Wouldn’t take long. 

“Ironically two or three years ago when his career was coming to the end, he went to Ipswich on loan. I was laughing my head off. 

“When we were beaten by Wales, he didn’t have a good game. Wardy didn’t have a good game. They need to go back and see how bad they were.”  

Accused of demanding too much of his players as a coach, Keane feels he has nothing to apologise for and singled out one incident he experienced as a player to make his point. 

“Brian Clough – you’re on about motivation – he punched me one time,” he said.  

“He was upset. It was heated. He punched me. I remember thinking ‘You’re still a brilliant manager’. 

“I came in the next day and trained. I didn’t text somebody in the media. Or go on ‘Ratsapp’.” 

Having left his most recent role as an assistant at Nottingham Forest in June, Keane revealed he’s open to a return to management but wants complete control of a club again.  

“I definitely want to have another crack. I don’t think Real Madrid will be calling me,” he said.  

“If I go back to a club, it’s got to be as a manager, simple as that.” 

Republic of Ireland face Switzerland on September 5 as part of Euro 2020 qualification with Mick McCarthy’s side currently top of their group.

The Brazilian winger wants the Hammers to show strong form on their own patch this term and believes they have the quality to avoid further defeats

Felipe Anderson has insisted that West Ham are aiming to be invincible at home and are focused on making the London Stadium a fortress this season.

The Hammers lost their first game of the season 5-0 at home against reigning champions Manchester City, but the Brazilian winger believes his side can kick on after that disappointing scoreline.

West Ham won their next home game 2-0 against Norwich City, with Anderson putting in an impressive display, a result the wide man is taking heart from.

“I have always said that West Ham have the quality to play against any rival,” he told West Ham’s official website.

“Our idea is to be invincible at home and then try to get results away. So, we can play against anyone and we know it, but we also know that we have to go step by step.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t start the season as we would have liked it, with that defeat at home [against Manchester City], but we knew we were working well, we had an exceptional preparation, so we knew the results would come.

“And now we have showed our good side in [this] victory [against Norwich City].

“We’re playing intelligently and keeping possession of the ball and that makes easier to create chances and to convert them of course.

“Our base of players is still the same, last season there were a lot of new faces, so it was harder to mould them into a unit but this season we already have that base, and the new players have quality, so the process is easier.”

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also won two of their three away games in all competitions this season, beating Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League and Newport County in the Carabao Cup, drawing 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion after their opening-day defeat.

Their next home contest looks to be a challenging one, with Manchester United visiting the London Stadium. However, the Hammers will have taken confidence from Crystal Palace’s 2-1 victory against the Red Devils at Old Trafford and will believe they can get a result from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

The second-division club’s former striker was in the running to take over, but has now bowed out of the race

Jurgen Klinsmann has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant VfB Stuttgart CEO position, citing the club’s lack of urgency in the hiring process.

The 55-year-old rose to prominence as a striker with the club between 1984 and 1989, earning a move to Inter prior to the 1989-90 season.

Klinsmann had been in talks with Stuttgart for months over the role but has now confirmed that he will not be taking over as CEO of the 2.Bundesliga side. 

“By e-mail I informed the Presidential Council of VfB Stuttgart today that I am not available … for further talks regarding the office of CEO and for another office at VfB,” Klinsmann said in a statement.

“The entire communication and correspondence with both the VfB Presidential Council and a Munich-based recruitment consultancy were not effective and without any urgency on the part of VfB.

“Naturally, I am keeping my fingers crossed for VfB – as always – and I hope that the club will soon be back in the division it belongs.”

Stuttgart were relegated last season after finishing in 16th place in the Bundesliga table, forcing the club into the promotion-relegation playoff against second-division Union Berlin.

Union would earn promotion via away goals after a 2-2 aggregate result, achieving promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history. 

Klinsmann has been out of management since being fired by U.S. Soccer in November 2016. 

The German led the U.S. men’s national team to the 2014 World Cup round of 16 but had begun qualification for the 2018 World Cup with back-to-back defeats. 

Bruce Arena would take over from Klinsmann on an interim basis, but Arena was unable to achieve qualification as the USMNT shockingly missed out on Russia 2018. 

Since leaving the USMNT, Klinsmann has been linked with several positions across the globe but has yet to return to management. 

Klinsmann said last year that he turned down several job opportunities ahead of the 2018 World Cup, insisting that he’s waiting for a top-level job to open. 

“If (I return), I want to lead an association of a certain calibre and with the goal to reach the semi-finals at the World Cup,” Klinsmann told Sport Bild at the time.

The winger’s former team-mate believes the Brazil star did everything he could to return to Camp Nou from Paris Saint-Germain

Neymar did everything possible to return to Barcelona before the European transfer window closed, according to Luis Suarez.

Paris Saint-Germain retained the Brazil superstar despite strong speculation he would leave, two years after joining from Barca for a world-record €222 million (£200m/$262m) fee.

Neymar was reportedly the subject of a series of offers from the Catalans, whose La Liga rivals Real Madrid were also said to be interested, and there were even rumours the player offered up to €20m (£18.1m/$20m) of his own money to facilitate a transfer back to the Spanish champions.

Despite PSG bringing in Inter striker Mauro Icardi on loan to boost their forward options , Neymar is now set to stay at the club until January at least.

There has long been speculation Neymar regretted his decision to leave Barca in 2017 and Suarez confirmed team-mates warned him about making the move to Paris.

“We talked about it at the time,” Suarez told Fox Sports Radio in Argentina.

“We told him that there would be no place better than at Barcelona. But it’s his decision and he chose that.

“Now, he did everything possible to return.”

Although they could not land Neymar, Barca signed Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid and the World Cup winner scored his first La Liga goals for the club in the 5-2 defeat of Real Betis.

However, Barca have taken four points from three games in a stumbling start without injured captain Lionel Messi and they sit five points behind Griezmann’s old club Atleti in the table.

Suarez has also been sidelined by injury, but he feels Griezmann, who rejected a possible move to Barca last year, is settling in well at Camp Nou.

“He is integrating [into the squad] in the best way possible,” Suarez said.

“He’s showing the squad that he is very humble. Here, we are all the same.”

A bright spot for Barca has been the emergence of Ansu Fati, with the 16-year-old becoming the club’s youngest league goalscorer to help earn a 2-2 draw at Osasuna before the international break.

“He came to train a day before playing the game against Real Betis,” Suarez added. “We noticed him and we were all surprised by his age.

“I think that when it comes to entering the dressing room, the more experienced players have to support him. ‘Don’t change the way you play’.

“Logically, he looks at you in a special way, but we try to make jokes to make him feel more comfortable.”

The inaugural edition of the competition, set to begin Thursday, will be teams’ path to get into the regional championship

Everything is connected in Concacaf.

The Concacaf Nations League, set to kick off Thursday, will serve as qualification for 2021 Gold Cup, the confederation announced Wednesday.

Nations League is set up with three leagues. The top two teams in each League A group will secure automatic qualification to the continental championship. So too will the winners for the four League B groups.

The second-place teams in League B, along with the winners of the four League C groups will go into a qualification round for the Gold Cup with the winners of those games moving on to play the third-place teams from each League A group (who also will be relegated from the marquee league).

That means the 16-team field for the confederation’s top tournament will be made up of the eight winners and runners-up of League A groups, the four winners of the League B groups and four teams who secure their spot via the playoff.

“The Concacaf Nations League is about uniting the Confederation through meaningful competition, while providing an exciting pathway to the Gold Cup,” Concacaf President Victor Montagliani said in a news release. “Through this tournament, all 41 Concacaf Member Associations are able to follow the dream of competing on a more consistent basis, opening the door for continued development across our entire region.”  

The first-round of the Gold Cup qualification playoff, between the winners of League C groups and the second-place teams from League B groups, are set to take place in March. The winners of those two-legged ties will then face the third-place teams from League A in June. The final of the Nations League, featuring the League A group winners, also is set to take place in June 2020.

Earlier this summer, the confederation announced a major overhaul to World Cup qualification. It sees the Hexagonal round played simultaneously with a tournament featuring the remaining teams in a tournament to earn a spot in a playoff against the fourth-placed team in the Hex. Previously, the Hex was the culmination of the qualification process, but it now will feature the top six teams as determined by the June 2020 FIFA rankings.

Days ago, it was reported that Venus received a friendship ring from her beau. When approached regarding the ring, the ultra-private Hammond told Page Six, “We have a firm commitment to one another to keep our relationship private.”

Camera-shy as the couple is, they were spotted holding hands on an N.Y.C. stroll on Easter Sunday.

Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel was devastated by the unexpected death of her on-off boyfriend Dennis Shields, who was found dead in his Trump Tower apartment on Friday of a suspected overdose. He was 51.

On Tuesday, a new development only added to the heartbreak. According to People’s sources, marriage may have been on the horizon for the couple before Shields passed away.

“He proposed to her with a ring in April. She wasn’t wearing the ring,” the friend said. “There were some hurdles to overcome before she could make that level of a commitment. She loved him. He’s her family and her best friend and her confidante. Her partner and her business partner.”

Though Frankel chose not to wear the ring, that didn’t necessarily mean she outright rejected his proposal.

“She didn’t say no,” the friend said. “She would have loved to have married him, but there were some hurdles to overcome first.”

The proposal was purposely kept secret, but it turns out this wasn’t the first time he had asked for her hand. “Very few people knew about the proposal,” the friend said. “He’s proposed before — but never with a ring.”

Now that Shields has passed away, the friend said Frankel is understandably “devastated.” Frankel broke her silence on the ordeal on Monday with an Instagram of Shields alongside her beloved late dog Cookie, who died in October.

“Rest In Peace my sweet babies who gave me endless unconditional love. #nowandforever,” she wrote.

Madonna has since been romantically linked to many men, including Dennis Rodman, Tupac Shakur, and Warren Beatty.

In 1996 she gave birth to her first child, daughter Lourdes, with then-boyfriend Carlos Leon. She wed British film director Guy Ritchie in 2000, welcoming a son, Rocco, that same year. In 2006, Madge and Ritchie adopted son David, though they filed for divorce just two years later in 2008. Madonna went on to release ten (!) more albums and adopt three more daughters: Mercy James, Estere, and Stelle.
