When it comes to the root of Davis’s drive to change the industry, her daughter, Alizeh, the actress and activist is thankful that the 16-year-old doesn’t plan to pursue a future in Hollywood.

“I profoundly am not encouraging her to go into this field,” she shared. “In fact, I’ve always said, ‘If none of my kids become actors, I’ll have done my job right.’ It’s such a crazy business. It’s better to have a real-life job.”

Carrie Underwood Is The Most Fired Up We’ve Ever Seen Her Over This Country Music Issue

If you’ve ever cruised down a highway, belting the chorus of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” — the one where she sings about literally demolishing a cheating ex’s car — you’ve got a pretty good sense that Underwood is not timid.

Let’s not pretend to be surprised that Carrie Underwood can pull punches when she needs to. As the pregnant singer preps for a tour, she still raised eyebrows by going to bat over sexism in her industry — because honestly, she’s pretty fed up. She visited the Women Want to Hear Women podcast with Elaina Smith to talk about the lack of female representation in country music, and she had a surprisingly intense bone to pick with the trite cliché that “women don’t want to hear women” on the radio.

“That’s B.S,” she said. “Even when I was growing up, I wished there was [sic] more women on the radio and I had a lot more than there are today.“

Jeff Kravitz

“Think about all of the little girls that are sitting at home saying, ‘I want to be a country music singer.’ What do you tell them? What do you do? How do you look at them and say, ‘Well, just work hard, sweetie, and you can do it.’ When that’s not the case right now,” she added.

“‘Cause I see so many girls out there bustin’ their rear ends and so many guys out there that it’s some new guy out there has a No. 1, and I’m like, ‘Good for you, that’s great, but who are you? And then these strong women who are super talented that totally deserve it are not getting the same opportunities. But how to change it? I don’t know. How do we change it?’”

Underwood’s pretty mindful of this gap in her own work too. She’s recruited a country duo named Maddie & Tae to join her on the Cry Pretty tour, but she also made it clear that this wasn’t some handout to them.

“First and foremost, they’ve earned it,” Underwood said. “I’m not throwing anybody a bone by taking them out on tour with me. They deserve to be there and they’re gonna put on a great show, and I’m already proud of all that they’ve done. I’m a fan, you know?”

After hearing what Underwood does to guys who have wronged her (she took a Louisville slugger to both headlights, guys), it would be wise of the country music industry to take her calls for change seriously.

Melania Trump Flies to New York Once a Month to Visit Her Hairstylist

That said, Donald apparently listens to her often and his decisions could be swayed by her influence. As the Times put it, Melania has “political views different from her husband’s,” making it hard for them to “compromise.” One thing they definitely couldn’t agree on? Furniture. She chose new décor for the White House months before her arrival, and Donald eventually brought his own, a move that proves that despite how much he does keep her wishes in mind, he tries to make sure his word is the last one. (Her team insisted that “they both chose the décor.”)

While the East Wing maintains that the “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” jacket Melania worn in June to visit migrant detention facilities didn’t come with a hidden message, a source told the Times that she wore it in response to critics balking at the idea of her wanting to make such a trip despite her husband’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy. “No one tells the first lady what to do,” Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s communications director, reaffirmed. “Our office has nothing to do with what clothing choices she makes and this situation was no different.”

And while the details of her relationship are fascinating, it’s worth nothing that Melania — who has an Hermès Birkin collection worth at least $114,000 — hasn’t shied away from living lavishly, despite her role. Her staff of 10 may be small in comparison to that of other first ladies (Michelle Obama and Laura Bush had more than 25), but there is one thing she doesn’t skimp on: her hair.

According to the story, Melania flies to New York at least once a month to meet with a “circle of associates” along with her sister and, get this, her hairstylist. Flying thousands of miles to get a quick touch-up? Sounds expensive.

When she is at the White House, she works with the kitchen staff to try and suggest a healthier meal plan for Donald (he likes to have two scoops of ice cream for dessert), takes up Pilates, and focuses on the look of her home by working with the White House Historical Association. Oh, and she also keeps a close eye on her 12-year-old son Barron.

The more you know.

What It Was Like Inside the Room at Roseanne Barr’s Live Apology Interview

Across the room sat a family of Trump supporters, who whooped and hollered anytime Barr brought up her political leanings. At one point, when she recalled mocking her liberal daughters for their tears following Trump’s win back in 2016 (“nee-ner nee-ner nee-ner,” she reminisced), the concentrated group of about 10 people broke out into raucous laughter, with a few thunderous claps, while the rest of the room sat in silence. “We love you Roseanne!” yelled one fan after she thanked them for their support.

As for her message, Barr echoed the talking points she had spouted in her Hannity appearance—essentially giving a non-apology apology. “I recognize that [Valerie Jarrett] thinks I wronged her,” she told Boteach. “I’m sorry that anyone thought that that was a racist and not a political tweet, because it was in fact a political tweet and not a racist tweet whatsoever. I can talk about it ’til I’m blue in the face and they’re never going to accept it, and I accept that.”

Though she was once a vocal member of “the left,” she added, “All my friends said, your mistake was to apologize to the left because when they see blood in the water, they’re going to come until you’re dead.”

Liaoning to boost business ties with BRI economies

Northeast China’s Liaoning province will enrich its business ties with economies related to the Belt and Road Initiative by undertaking more market-oriented reforms and enhancing regional connectivity to enhance its economic revitalization, the provincial governor said.

Liaoning is willing to work with countries in Northeast Asia to strengthen regional cooperation via policy dialogue and the implementation of priority projects in the region, said Tang Yijun, governor of Liaoning.

Meanwhile, Tang said the province will continue to deepen its cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries to create new growth momentum.

Diversified regional cooperation has not only led to economic prosperity and sustainable development, but has also significantly contributed to regional solidarity and stability, he said.

“Central and Eastern European countries have a lot of goods we need, such as high-quality machinery, agricultural products and food. We have many advantages in infrastructure construction, manufacturing and modern agriculture,” said Tang, noting that both sides’ imports are complementary.

Liaoning saw its foreign trade with countries and regions involved in the BRI jump 11.5 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, data from Liaoning’s Provincial Commerce Department show.

The province also attracted $1.2 billion of foreign direct investment between January and June, up 3.6 percent on a year-on-year basis, while it gained 273.2 billion yuan ($38.19 billion) of investment from domestic investors, soaring 16.5 percent from same period a year earlier.

Zou Guofa, vice-president of Carrefour China, said since the provincial government has focused on developing the business environment, streamlining the working process and encouraging foreign investment in recent years, the French company is now running 19 stores across Liaoning and has also opened an online platform to reach more consumers.

Moreover, supported by the guidance and promotion of the government’s new measures to boost the logistics sector, the Carrefour Logistics Distribution Center was successfully established in Shenyang and put into service, he said, adding that it provides coverage for all Carrefour stores in Northeast China, completing the resource integration of offline stores and online channels.

Horst Kersten Gaudlitz, general manager of Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian Co), said as one of the important engine production bases for Volkswagen AG in northern China, Liaoning’s transportation network including civil aviation, railways and highways has provided great convenience for goods traffic and people-to-people exchange.

“Meanwhile, a large concentration of universities in Liaoning offers a strong talent pool for global business,” he said.

Apart from building a cozy commercial environment, Liaoning Port Group opened three new routes from Dalian to Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, and the Republic of Korea in the first half of 2018, meaning Liaoning’s foreign trade route network now covers more than 300 ports in over 160 countries and regions.

It is connected to almost all major ports in countries participating in the BRI.

Supported by 200 berths and harbor facilities for metric 450,000 tons of crude oil, 400,000 tons of minerals, 200,000 tons of containers, as well as 70,000 tons of automobiles, the port operator said it aims to attract more international cargo with more services such as ship maintenance and shipping related finance lease services.

The Internet Slut-Shames Ariana Grande for Minidress at Aretha Franklin’s Funeral

“Ariana Grande’s ponytail is longer than her dress,” wrote one critic. Another added: “Ariana Grande needs to fire her stylist, you don’t dress like that at a funeral.”

One commenter went as far to suggest that the hemline of her dress was merely classless. “Like, I get it, you’re Ariana Grande but you’re at the FUNERAL FOR THE QUEEN. HAVE SOME CLASS. You know every auntie in there is ready to tell her that her hair is longer than her damn dress,” they tweeted.

However, a few came to the pop star’s defense. “Ariana Grande did a great job singing. Aretha loved her. And the Lord knows she ain’t the first one to wear a short dress to a funeral,” one fan pointed out.

Whether you agree with Ariana’s dress length or not, let’s not forget that the day was about honoring the Queen of Soul and nothing else.

The ingredients of success

Online food celebrities cook up a menu of imagination to whet our appetites, Xing Wen reports.

Zhou Xiaohui has cooked up a surefire recipe for success. The ingredients are a dash of hard work, a spoonful of imaginative cooking, a good stock of personality, sauteed and spiced up with popularity.

Zhou, 25, is one of a growing number of Chinese gourmets who have successfully served up a feast of content on YouTube. Based in Chengdu, Sichuan province, Zhou boasts more than 7.3 million online followers, making her the most popular Chinese food blogger.

Best known for her hit series of “office cooking” videos, published under the moniker, Ms Yeah, Zhou’s most famous video is one that she released in July 2017, which notched up a total of 100 million views within a week.

In the video, Ms Yeah, a female office worker, carries a cup and seems anxious as she waits in a long line to get a drink from a small soy milk machine stationed in her workplace. Suddenly she gets a flash of inspiration, and goes outside to buy watermelons from a vendor instead.

She then skillfully carves them into enticing offerings of flowers, dragons, and even Angry Birds. She tempts her colleagues, still waiting in line, to gorge on the succulent sculptures. None can resist and, minutes later, a giggling Ms Yeah has the soy-milk machine all to herself.

Versatility, ingenuity and the solving of conundrums are part of her cooking appeal. She can conjure up treats in the most unlikely of settings. Making hotpot with a water dispenser, barbecuing meat with a garment steamer and cooking jianbing guozi, a snack consisting of deep fried dough sticks rolled in a thin pancake, on a computer mainframe case.

Angela Bassett Stuns in a Bikini for Her 60th Birthday

Age has nothing on Angela Bassett.

The stunning Black Panther actress turns 60 on Thursday — and is celebrating with a jaw-dropping bikini shot on her Instagram. Bassett uploaded the shot of herself in the floral two-piece early on her birthday and celebrated all her fellow Leos.

“Happy Birthday to all my Leo brothers and sisters. Let’s eat cake!” she wrote.

It’s not the first time Bassett has shown off her banging body. The actress posted another bikini shot earlier this summer and chose an ab-baring jumpsuit for the premiere of A Wrinkle in Time in the spring.

Bassett’s stylist, Jennifer Austin, told PeopleStyle in March that Bassett wasn’t hesitant about showing her midriff. “Angela is a beautiful, smart, elegant and most importantly confident woman with a youthful spirit,” Austin shared. “She embodies those things at all times and she works hard to keep herself together, so every now and then we like show it off.”

She added, “With Angela I push the lines of what society thinks a women of a certain age should look and dress like. When I style my clients I dress them based on their personality, energy and spirit as well as their body type and what they realistically can pull off.”

Michelle Obama Just Officiated a Chicago Couple’s Wedding Ceremony

Tina Newman, who posted the since-deleted Instagram Story, wrote, “Holy Moly” and “That moment when Michelle Obama officiated at your [cousin’s] wedding!”

The family has strong ties to the Obamas. Rivkin’s father is Robert S. Rivkin, the deputy mayor of Chicago, and her mother was appointed by former President Barack Obama to serve as Director of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.

The newlyweds met in high school and both graduated from Yale, according to The New York Times.

A guest at the wedding posted photos of the celebration on Instagram, showing the couple dancing and highlighting the stunning setting, Theater on the Lake.

Mrs. Obama is keeping busy in her post-White House years: She is embarking on a 10-city book tour in November and December to promote her upcoming memoir, Becoming, in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Detroit, Denver, San Jose and Dallas.

“Over this time that I’ve been out of the White House, I’ve had time to think and reflect for the first time in a long time. I spent some time really thinking about the people, the stories and the experiences that have shaped me and helped me become the person I am today,” Obama said in a video about her book.

She continued, “I am proud of what I’ve created. I’m proud because it is candid, it’s honest, it is totally and utterly me. So I’m also a little frightened because it is so candid and honest and open.”

Obama’s book tour is already a hit. Steven Barclay, a book agent, told the Times, “It’s like you’re looking at a Madonna tour. That’s the first thing that comes to mind.”
