Just one in eight Bangladesh garment factories pass international safety inspection

The president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters
Association (BGMEA) has said that only 200 out of 1,500 garment factories
in the country have met safety requirements for workers set out by an
international accord, Reuters reports.

According to the news organisation, Rubana Huq accused members of the
accord on Sunday of unilaterally imposing new requirements which were
damaging the sector. She said she had met with their inspectors on Saturday
to urge them to consult with manufacturers on their decisions.

The Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety is a legally-binding
pact signed by 200 fashion companies following the Rana Plaza building
collapse in 2013 which resulted in the deaths of over 1,100 garment factory
workers.

“We had an agreement with Accord in May this year that it will not take
any decision unilaterally but that has not been honoured,” Rubana Huq said,
according to Reuters. “Since the formation of Accord, we implemented a lot
of remediation as per its requirements that involved huge investment. Now,
in the name of final checks, the Accord is asking for several
remediations.”

Huq said that only 200 of the 1,600 factories inspected between 2014 and
2019 had been awarded completion certificates for meeting safety
requirements. Huq also said that at least 400 factories were no longer
allowed to accept orders from the Western brands that are members of the
accord as a result of them not not complying to the new safety rules
quickly enough.

Originally planned to expire in May 2018, the five-year pact has since
been given an extension.

The Early Access trial offers gamers a limited experience of 10 hours of gameplay.

Zara accused of coalition with Hong Kong demonstrators

While the city of Hong Kong hopes to celebrate with optimism the next
edition of the Centrestage fashion event, the riots hanging over the region
for 13 weeks have placed the Spanish Zara in the center of all eyes. After
the harsh protests of this weekend and the day of student strikes last
Monday.

It all began after the Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao asked through a
headline whether Monday’s closure of four of Zara’s stores in central Hong
Kong responded to a demonstration of support for the protests and the day
of strike called by different student organizations. A question that was
quickly reproduced by Chinese media and users of social networks like
Weibo. Under the hashtag “Zara statement” they invited the Spanish company,
the main firm of the giant Inditex, to pronounce itself-at the same time
they turned the mentioned hashtag into one of the most popular topics of
the Chinese network, with more than 170 million interactions.

Finally, and in a very unusual movement within the Spanish company, Zara
was pushed to issue a statement through the Weibo network itself, in which
it claimed to support the policy of “one country, two systems” under which
China currently governs Hong Kong. As well as “never” having been related
to the protests, nor having made any statement about the demonstrations and
strikes.

The Cause: Employee Mobility Problems

Sources close to the Spanish group would have assured, as reported by
media such as Reuters, that some Zara stores in Hong Kong had been forced
to delay the opening of establishments last Monday. Because of the problems
of mobility and public transport that their employees would have suffered
as a result of the protests. But all Zara stores in the region finally
opened their doors that day.

This is not the first time the Beijing government has used social
networks and the media to pressure its people against certain international
firms and groups. A measure by which it seeks a public declaration of
support for its sovereignty over the Hong Kong region.

Just a few weeks ago, firms and groups such as Versace, Givenchy and
Coach were accused of violating China’s territorial sovereignty because of
T-shirts that included Taiwan. Another territory of the regions claimed by
Beijing that is not an independent country from China. This fact also
splashed over Zara last year, after the territory appeared independently in
a country drop-down on its China website.

Inditex currently has 31 stores in Hong Kong, 14 Zara stores, 6
Pull&Bear, 5 Bershka, 2 Massimo Dutti, 2 Oysho stores and 2 Zara Home
stores. Meanwhile, in mainland China, the Spanish group has 580 stores, of
which 178 are from its Zara chain, 88 from Oysho, 87 from Massimo Dutti, 67
from Pull&Bear, 85 from Bershka, 44 from Stradivarius, 1 store from Uterqüe
and 50 Zara Home stores.

Meghan Markle Wears an Off-the-Shoulder Carolina Herrera Dress for Her First Event with the Entire Royal Family

This event is only the first of many for the new royal.

RELATED: Queen Elizabeth Is Granting Meghan Markle This Royal Perk Before William, Harry, or Kate

Markle’s got another big milestone coming up, when she will travel solo with Queen Elizabeth by train to Chester for royal business. Going to an event like this is an honor that not even her husband has been given—as far as we know, neither Prince Harry nor Prince William or Kate Middleton have ever traveled to an official royal visit using the queen’s train.

What a week of meaningful steps for Markle as the Duchess of Sussex. We have a feeling these “firsts” will just keep coming.

Melania Trump’s New Message Is Black and White

Click:composite insulator vs polymer insulator

The following Monday, she chose a pale pink leather Proenza Schouler gown. The just-below-the-knee dress was not particularly exciting, save for the leather material, which helped FLOTUS melt back into the background while the headlines about her jacket choice—which was dubbed apathetic—continued to splash across the news. (Her communications director said the jacket had “no message,” while President Donald Trump contradicted that statement, noting that the message was directed at the “Fake News Media.”)

FLOTUS must have known that all eyes would be on her when she hit the pavement on Thursday afternoon, so it comes as no surprise that she continues her understated streak. And while we don’t condone her insensitive parka pick from last week, we do have to say we miss her bolder sartorial choices—who didn’t love theorizing about that hat?

RELATED: Melania Trump Wears “I Really Don’t Care” Jacket for Surprise Visit to Texas Border

Her coat may have overshadowed her actual visit to the McAllen, Texas shelter, but there was still plenty of criticism about how the First Lady conducted herself while meeting displaced children at the center. Melania said of the kids, “I’m sure they’re very happy,” while speaking with leaders who added that the shelter was like a “home.” When she actually met the children, she asked straightforward questions like “where are you from?” rather than “how are you feeling?”

With the world watching as she gets ready for her second visit, we wonder how she will carry herself, especially given the situation she is now checking-in on was created in the aftermath of her husband’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy. Unless she swaps outfits—which she’s been known to do when hopping from place to place—this time, it looks like she’ll let her actions, rather than her clothes, do the talking.

Guess Co-Founder Resigns After Kate Upton and Others Accuse Him of Sexual Misconduct

Guess’s co-founder is leaving the company after 37 years at its helm.

Following accusations of sexual misconduct, Paul Marciano has officially resigned from the denim brand. He was accused of harassment by multiple people, including model Kate Upton, who said in January that he groped and harassed her when she was 18 years old.

“After the first day of shooting the Guess Lingerie campaign [on July 25, 2010], Paul Marciano said he wanted to meet with me. As soon as I walked in with photographer Yu Tsai, Paul came straight up to me, forcibly grabbed my breasts and started feeling them—playing with them actually,” Upton said in an interview in February. “After I pushed him away, he said, ‘I’m making sure they’re real.’”

Upton alleges that during the meeting, Marciano continued to touch her inappropriately, even grabbing the back of her head to forcibly kiss her face and neck. After declining his repeated advances after this meeting, she alleges that she was fired.

Venturelli

This was not the first time that a model voiced complaint about Marciano. The New York Times reports that in 2009, former Guess fit model Lindsey Ring filed suit against Marciano, alleging that he “began to create a hostile work environment for Ms. Ring by making sexual comments to her, repeatedly touching her inappropriately and without her consent, and attempting on at least two occasions to fondle her sexually after taking her to a private area at the worksite.” Ring’s attorneys filed a dismissal of the case later that year, which could indicate a settlement.

Additional allegations against Marciano included “inappropriate comments and texts and unwanted advances including kissing and groping,” according to a new filing. The company chose conduct an internal investigation of these allegations by interviewing more than 40 people and reviewing 1.5 million pages of documents, including emails, HR and legal files, social media copy, video, audio recordings, photos, calendars, and invoices.

Marciano has denied the allegations, but he still chose to leave the company, as revealed in a Guess company 8-K form with the SEC, a required announcement to major shareholders.

RELATED: Kate Upton Details Alleged Sexual Harassment by Paul Marciano

“Many of the allegations could not be corroborated,” the Guess filing states. “In some cases, no conclusion could be reached because the individuals either declined to be interviewed or provided insufficient information to the investigators. And, in other cases, the investigation found that credible accounts were given by both sides. The investigation found that on certain occasions Mr. Marciano exercised poor judgment in his communications with models and photographers and in placing himself in situations in which plausible allegations of improper conduct could, and did, arise.”

It goes on to clarify that Marciano is voluntarily resigning. He will continue to receive his salary until his contract expires on January 30, 2019.

Additionally, the company reached settlements with five specific people, totaling $500,000. It’s unclear whether one of them is Upton though, since the five people’s names haven’t been released.

Taylor Swift Is a Joan Holloway Look-Alike in Mad Men-Inspired Music Video

Taylor Swift is all for a rebirth. It seems as if the singer goes through a metamorphosis every time she releases a new song, and this time around, she’s bringing back one of our favorite fictional characters from the grave in the process.

For the new music video “Babe,” which stars Swift and Sugarland, the singer gives her best Joan Holloway impression in a Mad Men-inspired drama. Remember Joan? The red-haired femme fatale played by Christina Hendricks in the AMC hit series? Well, she’s back…sort of.

Courtesy

During the song’s visuals, T.Swift, who dons a red wig that’s perfectly coiffed and matches her color-blocked ensemble, accessorized with a bejeweled brooch (a Joan signature), plays the role of Brandon Routh’s mistress.

Swift, a secretary, and Routh, her boss, strike up an affair in the office, while the wife, portrayed by Sugarland frontwoman, Jennifer Nettles, is blissfully ignorant to the entire situation. Nettles eventually catches her husband and Swift in the act, and drama ensues (naturally).

Though the 1960s-esque video may feel like a storyline ripped right out of a Mad Men script, it was conceptualized by the “Delicate” singer. “She actually reached out to us and said, ‘I’ve got a great idea for the video,’ and she wrote the treatment,” Nettles told People at the CMT Awards on Wednesday.

“And we looked at it,” Bush added, “and said, ‘Oh my gosh, this is awesome.’”

Watch the entire drama unfold in the video above.

Whoopi Goldberg Gets Into a Screaming Match with Fox News’ Judge Jeanine Pirro

This article originally appeared on People. For more stories like this, visit people.com.

Whoopi Goldberg became entangled in a furious argument with guest Judge Jeanine Pirro after comments the latter made on Thursday’s episode of The View.

Pirro, who hosts Fox News’ Justice with Judge Jeanine, accused Goldberg of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“I don’t have Trump Derangement… let me tell you what I have. I am tired of people starting a conversation with Mexicans are liars and rapists,” Goldberg said.

“Listen, I’m 62-years-old, there’ve been a lot of people in office that I haven’t agreed with, but I have never, ever seen anything like this,” she continued.

“I have never seen anybody whip up such hate. I’ve never seen anybody be so dismissive. And clearly you don’t watch the show, so you don’t know that I don’t suffer from that. What I suffer from is the inability to figure out how to fix this,” she added.

Goldberg attempted to steer the conversation away by asking Pirro about “the Deep State,” which Pirro said was running the country, but the judge wasn’t swayed returning to the argument at hand.

“You know what’s horrible? When people who shouldn’t be here end up murdering the children of American citizens,” Pirro told Goldberg.

The actress shot back with, “What is horrible is when the president of the United States whips up people to beat the hell out of people. Say goodbye! Goodbye! I’m done!”

A commercial break followed the interaction, and after the break, Goldberg addressed viewers about the argument they witnessed.

“Welcome back. So, you saw me do something that I rarely do, I rarely lose my cool. I’m not proud of it, I don’t like it. But, I also don’t like being accused of being hysterical, because that’s one of the things I try not to be on this show. So. Have a great day,” she said.

A source close to the show tells PEOPLE Pirro “walked into the studio ready for a fight because Ana [Navarro] was the guest co-host.”

Navarro is a frequent commentator on CNN and The View.

RELATED: Whoopi Goldberg Blasts Roseanne Barr for Tweeting Doctored Photo of Her in Violent Trump Shirt

“[Pirro] was yelling at one of The View producers before the show and was upset with her own team from the start,” the source says.

The insider says Pirro was in two segments before “she ripped off her microphone” and commented that the experience was “exactly what I thought this was going to be.”

“She could have walked off the stage and continued to exit the studio but instead she walked by Whoopi and pointed a finger in her face and said, ‘I’ve done more for victims than you ever will,’” the source adds.

After the show was taped, the source says Goldberg reached out to Pirro.

“That’s not what she wants the show to be,” the insider says. “She was willing to talk to [Pirro] after the show and reached out but the call was not returned.”

Hours after the segment aired, Pirro made an appearance on The Sean Hannity Show where she claimed Goldberg escalated the argument and screamed at her to “get the f— out of this building.”

“I went on thinking that we would have a discussion about the book. The truth is that it was an attack on Donald Trump and then on me,” Pirro told Sean Hannity. “I sat there as Whoopi Goldberg pontificated about how horrible Donald Trump was and at one point I said, ‘You know, I’m here to talk about the book,’ and then she went ballistic. She ended the session, she said, ‘That’s it, I’m done.’”

Pirro alleged Goldberg walked off the set and that the situation “got worse” when she approached Goldberg afterward and said, “‘Whoopi, I’ve fought for victims my whole life.’”

“And she came at me as I was leaving and she said ‘F you’ in my face, literally spitting at me, ‘F you, get the F out of this building,’” Pirro claimed. “And I said to her, ‘did you just say that?’ She said, ‘that’s what I said, get the F out of this building.’”

A rep for Goldberg did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“She was screaming at me and I’m walking out of the building like a dog who was just ticked off. So forget about what she did to me on set, which was horrific in itself, but the treatment by Whoopi Goldberg is typical of what is going on in this country,” she continued. “The Left, they invite you on to talk but they don’t let you talk, they throw you off the show and then throw you out of the building.”

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump created the syndrome on Twitter.

“Some people HATE the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russia,” he tweeted. “They would rather go to war than see this. It’s called Trump Derangement Syndrome!”

According to CNN, the syndrome is the “knee-jerk opposition from liberals (and Never Trumpers) to anything and everything Trump does.”

The syndrome also dates back to the early 2000s when the idea of Trump as president was a joke used in late night shows, the outlet reports.
