Indian companies to ramp up investment in China

Most of the 57 Indian companies across industries that have operations in China told an industry survey they will increase their investment this year on the back of rising revenues and profits, amid a business-friendly, innovation-powered environment in the country.

The survey by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Evalueserve, a professional services firm, found that Indian companies in China are neither daunted nor affected by talk of slowing economic growth and uncertainty caused by Sino-US trade tensions.

Indian corporate investments in China range from 500 million yuan (around $70 million) down to 5 million yuan each. Their annual revenues are in the range of 60 million yuan to 600 million yuan, accounting for 3 to 20 percent of their global total.

Industrial manufacturing, consumer products, services, information technology, business process outsourcing, logistics, healthcare, business consulting, financial services, telecommunications and chemicals are some of sectors where Indian companies have a presence in China.

“Our second annual survey shows Indian companies in China are cautiously optimistic and confident,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, CII director-general.

Of the surveyed companies, 30 percent generated revenues higher than 100 million yuan from China in 2018. Four out of every five respondents said their China revenues in 2018 were higher than in 2017, thanks to the quality of their products and services.

East China in general, and Shanghai in particular, remain the key investment destinations of Indian companies, while Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces and Beijing are also receiving attention.

Typically, Indian companies operate in China in the form of branch offices, subsidiaries, joint ventures, or wholly owned foreign enterprises, and hire more than half of their workforce locally. However, rising wages, skills shortages, stiff competition from local companies, and stricter regulations are causing concern, they told the survey.

Sumeet Chander, who heads Evalueserve’s China operations, said: “Given Indian companies’ growth plans in China, the deep economic relationship between India and China will continue to grow.”

Xue Rongjiu, deputy director of the China Society for WTO Studies, agreed. “Both China and India should stand together against trade bullying and enhance commercial ties. They need to confront irresponsible trade policies caused by unilateralism.”

Ramakrishna Velamuri, Chengwei Ventures chair professor at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, said: “From a long-term perspective, the prospects for Indian companies in China are bright because of two key reasons. One, whatever happens on the international trade front, the Chinese domestic market is huge and will continue to grow; and two, the Chinese government realizes that the only way to deepen the economic relationship with India is by giving India better access to the pharma, IT and agricultural products sectors.”

Industrial profits up 2.6% in July; proactive policies urged

Profits of major Chinese industrial enterprises improved last month as a result of a pickup in demand and lower costs. But more proactive policies are needed to maintain the momentum, analysts said.

Click Here: geelong cats guernsey 2019

The National Bureau of Statistics announced on Tuesday that the profits of industrial enterprises above a designated size increased by 2.6 percent year-on-year to 512.67 billion yuan ($71.54 billion) in July, compared with a 3.1 percent decline in June. They include industrial enterprises with annual primary business revenue of 20 million yuan or more.

Zhu Hong, an NBS senior statistician, said petrochemical, electrical machinery and automotive industries are the major players that changed the profit growth figure from negative to positive. Those industries combined had a rise of 5.3 percentage points in year-on-year profit growth in July for their larger firms, compared with the previous month.

Zhu said that given income from asset disposals and the drop in crude oil prices, the decrease in profits for petroleum processing narrowed significantly last month-by 49.3 percentage points from June. Profit growth in electrical machinery sped up by 26.6 percentage points, partly due to a sales rebound.

A large increase in investment income helped the chemical industry post a 3.2 percent profit growth in July, up from a 14.7 percent drop in June. Automotive manufacturing saw the decline in profit narrowing by 7 percentage points, Zhu said.

Steven Zhang, chief economist at Morgan Stanley Huaxin Securities Co, attributed the uptick in the profits of larger industrial firms to a few factors, including demand-side improvement and the acceleration of production by Chinese exporters to avoid planned US tariff hikes.

“The current tax relief will promote overall better profitability for industrial enterprises above designated size. The downward speed of industrial production may slow, but insufficient demand may limit the profit rebound potential,” said Zhang in a report issued on Tuesday.

He forecast that China may step up proactive fiscal policy to hedge against downside risk due to lack of a foundation for a sharp rise in industrial profits.

Profits of private enterprises grew by 11.4 percent year-on-year in July-9.7 percentage points faster than that of the previous month, the NBS said.

Operating conditions have improved for industrial enterprises above designated size, reports show. As of the end of July, the enterprises’ days’ sales in inventory-which indicates how long it takes to turn inventory into sales-for finished goods decreased by 0.2 days year-on-year to 17.2 days. Their debt to asset ratio fell 0.5 percentage point year-on-year to 56.8 percent.

Large scale tax cuts have lowered corporate burdens, making the effects of fiscal policy more prominent. In the first six months, China’s newly introduced tax cuts and fee reductions totaled 1.2 trillion yuan, analysts at China Lianhe Credit Rating Co said in a report on Tuesday.

They forecast that China will continue to pursue a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy in the second half. Focusing on high-quality economic growth, Chinese macroeconomic policies will continue to balance stabilizing growth and guarding against risks to ensure that the economy performs within an appropriate range.

Drawing the blade of justice

After hitting ‘rock bottom’, Xu Xianzhe picked up a pen and sketched himself a thrilling new chapter, Xing Wen reports.

Lines of black ink slash back and forth across the page, vividly contrasting with the crisp white of the paper. Each stroke, though slightly different-some heavy and dark, others light and wispy-contributes to helping form the finished composition.

With a flourish, the 35-year-old author and illustrator, Xu Xianzhe, finishes scribbling his signature and, with a smile, hands the book to one of the many adoring fans clamouring for his autograph at the 2019 Shanghai Book Fair.

It is the final leg of his summer book signing tour which has also taken him to Beijing, Changsha in Hunan province, Wuhan in Hubei province and Hangzhou in Zhejiang province.

Each stop, without exception, Xu has found himself surrounded by crowds of young readers, each one captivated by the intriguing plot and well-rounded characters in his long-running comic book, Blades of the Guardians.

The story is set in the late Sui Dynasty (581-618), when people suffered under the yoke of a warmongering tyrant and bore the burden of heavy taxes, compulsory military service and forced labor.

The protagonist, Dao Ma, is an adept martial artist and a soldier of fortune. More than a mere mercenary, he honors a heroic code, placing a high value on the ties of kinship and loyal friends.

One day, he is entrusted to escort a mysterious masked man-actually a rebel leader-on a hazardous journey from Xiyu, or the western regions, to the imperial capital (now Xi’an), forming the basis for a suspense-filled and thrilling tale.

Pique wants PSG star Neymar back at Barcelona

The Blaugrana defender discussed his former Brazilian team-mate, who has been linked with a Camp Nou comeback

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says he would like to see Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar return to La Liga champions Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward wants to leave PSG and has been linked with a move back to Barca, two years on from his world-record €222 million (£200m/$246m) transfer.

Real Madrid have also emerged as a possible destination for Neymar before the transfer window shuts on September 2, but Blaugrana centre-half Pique would be happy if the 27-year-old returned to Camp Nou.

“Of course we’d like him to come back,” Pique told “La 1” of Television Espanola.

“But it’s something we can’t control. We’ll leave it in the hands of those who decide [these things] and from there we’ll see in a few days.”

Neymar – who missed the Copa America due to an ankle injury – is yet to feature for Ligue 1 champions PSG this season amid the ongoing speculation over his future.

The Brazilian forward was targeted by PSG fans during the home clash against Nimes on August 11, with banners criticising him for wanting to leave the French capital .

“He’s thought a lot about everything and he’s done everything right,” Pique added.

Barcelona remain confident they will eventually secure a deal for their former star after face-to-face talks with PSG progressed positively in Paris on Tuesday.

The La Liga champions made an offer comprising of €160 million (£144m/$177m) plus bonuses for the Brazilian, to be paid in three instalments in order to keep in line with Financial Fair Play.

However, PSG are keen on involving Barca full-back Nelson Semedo in the exchange, along with a fee of €100m (£90m/$111m) coming from the Catalan club.

Barcelona would prefer to not part with any of their current squad members, but are optimistic a deal could be imminent within a matter of hours rather than days.

Neymar has scored 34 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances despite both his seasons at PSG being interrupted by serious foot injuries.

In total, Neymar has managed 51 goals in 58 games for PSG – who have won two of their opening three Ligue 1 games in 2019-20.

'You can't say no' – Vela admits he was 'really close' to Barca move

The LAFC star admitted he nearly went back to Spain on loan this past winter, but claims he’s loving life in California

Los Angeles FC forward Carlos Vela admitted that he was “really close” to joining Barcelona this past winter, confirming that the Spanish giants did indeed reach out regarding a loan deal.

After scoring 14 goals while providing 13 assists in his debut season for LAFC, Vela was the subject of interest from Barca, who spent the winter looking to sign a new attacker.

The Mexican was listed among the rumoured targets, but a move never came to fruition as Barcelona settled for Kevin-Prince Boateng instead.

Boateng went on to make just four total appearances for Barca, while Vela spent the winter offseason preparing for his second season in MLS.

But Vela admitted that was almost not the case as, if it were up to him, he would have joined up with Barcelona for that period.

“It was really close,” Vela said on BS The Podcast. “My second month for holidays, I was there with my piña colada and my agent called me to say ‘look, Barcelona is calling you. They want you to play for four months then you can go back to LA’.

“I said just say yes, I don’t care about the money or nothing. I’m going to start training tomorrow, give me two weeks to be a little bit fit.

“Barcelona, Real Madrid you can’t say no. … If it was only my choice, for sure, I’d take it.”

Vela has continued to dominate MLS this campaign, as he edges closer and closer to the league’s single-season goal record.

The Mexican forward has already scored 27 goals while providing 15 assists this season as he pursues Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez’s single-season mark of 31 goals.

Meanwhile, LAFC sits atop the Western Conference, having already clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The 30-year-old forward, fresh off a goal in 3-3 draw with the rival LA Galaxy, says he would like to spend the rest of his career in Los Angeles as he has found a club where he feels at home.

“It’s not only the things I want, football is a business and you know how it works. But, if I have everything, I want to be here for the rest of my career,” he said.

“I’m really happy here, playing in LA. I want to be here.”

Next up for LAFC is a match against Minnesota United on Sunday, although Vela’s status remains up in the air due to a hamstring injury.

Barcelona's Dembele dilemma: When will €105m signing start taking care of himself?

The Frenchman is only likely to still be at Camp Nou after the transfer window closes because he is injured again but it’s time he got fit and focused

Ernesto Valverde knew the question was coming.

Barcelona were hosting Tottenham in the Champions League the following night but the group-stage clash at Camp Nou had been overshadowed by the news that Ousmane Dembele had once again turned up late for training.

Asked if he had ever come across such tardiness in a player before, the former winger quipped, “It happened with me!”

On that occasion last December, Valverde managed to lighten the mood with his little joke.

But Dembele’s incessant ill-discipline is no longer a laughing matter at Barcelona.

Not after his latest indiscretion.

After Barca’s Liga-opening loss at Athletic Club last Friday week, Dembele told team doctor Xavi Yanguas he was feeling some pain in his left thigh.

The game at San Mames represented the injury-prone winger’s first 90-minute outing in a competitive fixture since January but Dembele insisted he was fine.

According to his agent, Moussa Sissoko, the attacker felt as if were suffering from nothing more than cramp.

Barca’s players were given the remainder of the weekend off but Yanguas told Dembele to call him immediately if the pain worsened in any way, shape or form.

The 22-year-old never picked up the phone. It was only when he returned to training on Monday that Dembele informed the club’s medical team of increased discomfort in his hamstring.

Subsequent tests revealed a four-centimetre tear, ruling the France international out of action for five weeks.

Barca were enraged.

Sissoko was forced to dismiss reports that Dembele had exacerbated the injury by sleeping on an airport bench in Bilbao before flying to Senegal for the weekend, insisting that his client had, in fact, returned to Rennes to visit his mother.

However, the perception at Camp Nou remained that Dembele had not been 100 per cent open with the club regarding the severity of the pain he was experiencing after the game in San Mames.

Players with pace as explosive as Dembele’s are, of course, more susceptible to hamstring problems – Michael Owen is a famous case in point – but Barca’s problem with the Frenchman is a perceived lack of professionalism, the idea that he is not doing enough to look after his body.

This is third hamstring injury since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for an initial €105 million (£95m/$116m) in the summer of 2017 as a replacement for Neymar.

There have been five muscular injuries in total, as well as numerous reports of Dembele and his entourage staying up until all hours of the night playing video games.

“It’s a messy life,” the player’s former chef, Michael Naya, told Le Parisien last week. “I’ve never seen alcohol but he doesn’t respect the rest periods at all.

“There’s no structure around him.”

Barca have done their utmost to provide some. Club captain Lionel Messi even admitted that the players had taken it upon themselves to help Dembele avoid wasting his undoubted talent.

“On the pitch [Dembele] is a phenomenon and it depends on him [how good he becomes],” the Argentine told Marca.

“He has all the opportunity in the world to do what he wants. He can be one of the best.

“On the other hand, he’s a young guy who is adapting to the city and the club.

“The less you speak about it, the better. It’s necessary to leave him so he can be calm.

“He has already realised his mistakes and has rectified them. We are going to help him focus on football.”

Sergio Busquets spoke optimistically about Dembele’s maturation during pre-season, stating that, “He looks better.

“Everyone has a hard time going to a new club, with a different language and a different philosophy.

“Hopefully, everything goes better this year because he has a lot to give and we expect a lot from him.”

Jose Maria Bartomeu was certainly always quick to give Dembele his backing, even claiming earlier this year that Barca had no interest in re-signing Neymar as he was an inferior player.

“Ousmane is a young guy who arrived at a huge club and that’s not easy,” the club president told TVE. “But he has adapted and he is much better than Neymar.”

However, things have changed, and rapidly.

As recently as a month ago, Barca and Bartomeu still had every faith in Dembele’s ability to become a world-beater.

At that stage, it was Philippe Coutinho who was considered expendable, which is why the Brazilian was allowed to join Bayern Munich on loan even though he had only arrived from Liverpool in January 2018 – and for even more money (€160m).

Dembele, by contrast, was still considered Barca’s future, a belief founded upon the fact that, at times, when fully fit and focused, the jet-heeled, two-footed winger had been almost unstoppable.

However, after the Bilbao incident, Barca are so disillusioned with Dembele that they even considered using him as a makeweight in the deal to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou.

With a Catalan delegation having arrived in Paris on Tuesday for further talks with PSG, that offer is likely to be discussed again – but the Ligue 1 side are more interested in right-back Nelson Semedo, while Barca would now favour a cash-only transfer.

Of course, a move to the Parc des Princes would have made sense, given Thomas Tuchel would certainly have welcomed a reunion with Dembele, a player he spent one season coaching at Dortmund.

“Ousmane is an incredible player, really talented. I could watch his amazing skills in every training session,” the PSG boss stated last year.

“He’s also a great human being. He’s a little crazy. He’s a really nice boy but a little crazy.

“He loves to laugh, but can also have very serious conversations.”

Maybe it’s time Dembele had one with himself, though. He wants to stay at Camp Nou but the only reason he is likely to still be in Catalunya when the transfer window closes is because he is injured again.

Barca have gone out of their way to take care of him. But, at this stage, he needs to start taking care of himself.

Helping society is more meaningful than scoring a goal in a final – Mata

The Spaniard believes that football players have a responsibility to speak out and use their platform for positive change

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata believes that, if they want to, football players should use their platform to speak out on societal issues.

The 31-year-old has practiced what he preaches by founding Common Goal, a campaign for footballers to redistribute a small percentage of their earnings to charitable causes around the world.

Mata has managed to get several of the game’s biggest names to sign up, including Mats Hummels, Giorgio Chiellini and Alex Morgan.

“It’s a reality that there is a lot of money in football. And for me, the problem is not that,” Mata said in an interview with ESPN FC.

“That’s not a problem at all because football generates a lot of things for the world, and a lot of passion and a lot of money. So it’s normal that something that big generates a lot of money.

“If we can use a part of that money to actually invest in football, but in a different kind of football, which is a social football, then I think it makes a lot of sense.”

In addition to giving back financially, the Spaniard also believes that footballers have a societal responsibility to speak out and use their platform for positive change.

“I think there are still people that think, ‘Why is this football player speaking about all these things?'” Mata said. “Why not? That’s my point of view. Why not?”

“I’m very happy to be a football player.” Mata continued. “I’m happy to have played many games and win some important trophies. I feel very privileged and lucky about that and hopefully I can win many more. But I think we are here to do, in a way, something else.

“When you’re in a profession like this, you have that responsibility in terms of so many people following you, so many people watching the game.”

Mata, who joined United from Chelsea in 2014, has won many trophies during his time in the game, including the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and Copa del Rey.

However, the midfielder believes that there is something even more important that footballers can do in their careers besides winning championships.

“Helping other people is probably more meaningful than scoring a goal in the final,” Mata said. “If you can do something different, a different kind of goal, then much better.”

Ronaldo, Messi and Van Dijk – Predictions for the best rated players in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team

Goal takes a look at who will likely be the 10 highest rated players when the game launches next month

With FIFA 20 set for release just a few short weeks away on September 27, anticipation has grown over each player’s Ultimate Team ratings.

As official FUT ratings are yet to be revealed by EA SPORTS, Goal has predicted the 10 highest-rated players on FIFA 20 – including who’s a shoo-in to be rated the highest, as well as those who will be awarded a ratings bump and those who are expected to fall down the pecking order.

Who will be the best-rated player on FIFA 20?

Lionel Messi had yet another incredible year, winning the Golden Shoe award thanks to his phenomenal tally of 36 goals.

With Eden Hazard and Virgil van Dijk on the front covers for the game, the top in-game spots are free and will most likely go to Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo once again. The duo were rated the same last year with a joint-highest rating of 94, and the same is expected for this forthcoming edition of the game.

With how hotly contested the Messi vs Ronaldo debate is, EA is extremely unlikely to rate one player higher in overall than the other. Ronaldo is still one of the best players in the world, so him landing a rating in the top two isn’t even a debate at this point – despite Konami’s exclusive naming rights deal with Juventus for Pro Evolution Soccer, which will see the Serie A side named Piemonte Calcio in FIFA 20.

Despite the fact he was injured for a lot of the year, there’s no question that Neymar is still one of the world’s best players though he isn’t quite at the same level as Ronaldo or Messi. The Brazilian doesn’t deserve an upgrade, which is why Goal is predicting he will stay as a 92-overall.

Time for the first upgrade of this list. Hazard was a one-man army at times for Chelsea last season and undoubtedly earned his €100 million (£91m) transfer to Real Madrid. As the new cover-star of FIFA 20, it’s likely EA will be complimentary of his abilities and boost him up to the same level as Neymar at 92.

FIFA 20 ratings: Predictions for players rated over 90 overall

Luka Modric had an incredible 2018, winning the Ballon d’Or following his Champions League triumph and history-making performance for Croatia in the World Cup. The Real Madrid star is still an extraordinary midfielder though after the team’s struggles last year, Goal has moved him down one place in the rankings despite keeping his overall of 91.

Our first new entry to the top 10, it seems extremely likely that Van Dijk will be the highest-rated defender in FIFA 20 at 91. The Netherlands international had a phenomenal season, leading Liverpool to Champions League glory and second place in the Premier League. There has been a lot of talk of Van Dijk winning the Ballon d’Or so it only seems right to include him in the top 10, replacing Sergio Ramos.

Another Liverpool player for the list, Mohamed Salah proved he wasn’t a one-season wonder after he was the joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot with 22 league goals. The Egyptian wasn’t even in the top 25 on FIFA 19, but he surely deserves a big upgrade for his performances with a predicted rating of 91. Plus, Liverpool are now partnered with EA so that might help his chances.

It is frightening how good Kylian Mbappe is. The Frenchman is still only 20 years old, but was the top scorer in Ligue 1 last year with his impressive tally of 33 league goals. Despite his age, there’s little doubt that Mbappe is one of the best forwards in the world and deserves a huge upgrade at 91, considering he was the 42nd best player in FIFA 19 with an overall of 87.

After David de Gea’s struggles last season, it’s difficult to call who exactly is the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

Goal has opted for Jan Oblak who has been consistently been a world class goalkeeper over the last few years. The Slovenian was the 15th best player in FIFA 19 and fourth-best goalkeeper but perhaps it is time that he moves up the rankings a bit at 90.

Finally, we have one more Premier League player on the list, so it’s fittingly a member of the title-winning Manchester City squad. Raheem Sterling is getting better and better as the seasons go on, which is why he was voted Player of the Year at the Football Writer Awards.

While it may seem harsh to replace injury-ridden Kevin De Bruyne from the top 10, Sterling was one of the most impactful players at City last season and at the very least deserves an upgrade from his 85-rating to 90, which had seen him rank at 97th in the FIFA 19 ratings.
