Brazil face potential midfield headache as Arthur taken off injured against Honduras

Tite is already without star forward Neymar due to injury and the Barca man could also be a doubt after being on the receiving end of a rough tackle

Brazil face a potential wait on the fitness of Arthur after the midfielder was taken off injured against Honduras following a horror tackle.

The Barcelona man was substituted off with a sore right knee following a two-footed challenge by Romell Quioto in the 29th minute at Estadio Beira-Rio, for which the latter was shown a straight red card.

Head coach Tite took no chances on the injury and Arthur has already begun treatment on the injury, with no exams anticipated for the time being.

Brazil were already 2-0 ahead at the time of the injury, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Thiago Silva handing them the advantage, before they went on to add a further five goals against 10-man Honduras.

The Selecao are set to begin their Copa America campaign in six days as they look to regain their grasp on South American football having not won the tournament since 2007, with their opening fixture taking place on June 15 against Bolivia.

The 22-year-old has become a regular figure in Tite’s midfield over the course of the last season and was making his 10th appearance for his country prior to his withdrawal.

Arthur already has a La Liga title to his name having lifted Spain’s top domestic prize with Barcelona, making 44 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Brazil are also without their star forward Neymar for the Copa America on home soil after he damaged his right ankle in their previous warm-up game against Qatar.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger was taken off after 21 minutes before his side went on to win 2-0 thanks to first-half strikes from Richarlison and Jesus.

Neymar is undoubtedly one of the Selecao’s key men, currently sitting third in his country’s all-time goalscoring records with 60 goals in 97 games, bettered only by Pele and Ronaldo.

Tite opted to call up Chelsea winger Willian as the replacement for Neymar rather than the Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Willian is an experienced player at international level, having won 63 caps and scored eight times since making his debut in November 2011.

The Los Blancos youngster, however, is yet to appear for Brazil’s senior team and most recently appeared for their Under-20 side in October 2018.

'Every day for Robertson is like Christmas!' – Liverpool exit rumours dismissed by Dalglish

The Anfield legend has stressed that his fellow Scot should have no qualms about staying on Merseyside even if he receives offers to move this summer

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish believes Andy Robertson has no reason to want to leave the club during the transfer window.

The full-back was arguably the best left-back in the Premier League last season and has been linked with a move away from Anfield as a result, with Barcelona rumoured to be potential suitors.

Fellow Scotsman and former Reds player and manager Dalglish feels that the 25-year-old will not be going anywhere, however.

“Andy Robertson must wake up every morning and think it’s Christmas Day,” he said in the Sunday Post.

“That’s why I don’t believe he’ll be considering leaving Liverpool for any other football club at home or abroad.

“I’m told he has been linked with a couple of big European clubs, but why would he want to leave Liverpool? Seriously, tell me why?

“Anyway, he is already playing abroad! Well, that was always the way I looked at it when I moved from Scotland to England to join Liverpool from Celtic.”

Robertson has been a key figure in Liverpool’s squad over the past season, recording 11 assists in 36 Premier League games while adding a further two in the Champions League as the Reds went on to lift the trophy for a sixth time.

Dalglish, who scored 131 goals in 426 appearances for the club from 1977 to 1990 and spent six years as player-manager from 1985 to 1991, believes the defender has been one of the team’s most influential players.

“Andy has every right to be proud of what he has helped Liverpool achieve in the past 10 months,” he continued.

“Week in and week out, he has been hugely influential and his contribution has been enormous, what the team gets out of him in every game is remarkable.

“He quite rightly gets praised to the hilt for what he does in an attacking sense in the wide area, he gets up and down and creates plenty of chances for his team-mates.

“But he also has been outstanding in a defensive sense, too. Sometimes that tends to get overlooked.

“Andy just needs to keep showing the same application and focus that he has in the past five or six years.

“If it was good enough to get him to where he is now then he shouldn’t change anything.”

Survey shows more than half of Chinese watch vlogs

Vlogging, short for video blogging, has become a new fashion in China, as more and more people grab their smartphones and cameras to record their lives and ideas and post the videos online.

According to a recent survey by China Youth Daily which pooled 2,003 people, 54.4 percent of the respondents said they had watched vlogs and 29.1 percent said they made vlogs.

More than 60 percent of the respondents said they enjoy watching video clips about travel while about 57 percent said food vlogs are their favorite. Most of the respondents are interested in the vlogs of Internet celebrities and entertainers.

Shen Xiaoyan, an accountant from Jinan, capital of East China’s Shandong province, likes to scour vlogs for content about travel, cooking, study and shopping.

“I can learn about the life of other people (through their vlogs), learn their mentality and lifestyles. It broadens my horizons and adds joy to my tedious life,” Shen was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Despite the popularity of vlogs, some people complain about their problems. Some said that vloggers tout products and spread advertisements on their vlogs, while others said making good videos requires advanced equipment and editing.

And yet for all that, more than 80 percent of the surveyed said they would like to become a vlogger someday.

My Hazard fears were proved wrong! Martinez lauds latest Belgium effort

The head coach was concerned that his star man’s big-money transfer might distract the team in their Euro 2020 qualifier but his fears were allayed

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez was pleased Eden Hazard’s big-money transfer to Real Madrid did not prove a distraction as his side cruised to a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan on Saturday.

Hazard – making his 100th appearance for Belgium – did not score but set up the first goal for Dries Mertens while Timothy Castagne and Romelu Lukaku also netted in what was a straight-forward Euro 2020 qualifying victory in Brussels.

LaLiga giants Madrid confirmed the signing of Hazard on Friday, the 28-year-old swapping Chelsea for Spain and signing a five-year deal.

Martinez worried that the move may have seen his side take their eye off the ball but that was not to be the case.

“The atmosphere was great in the stadium. I was a little afraid that the festivities around Eden Hazard would distract, but that was not the case,” he was quoted as saying by Le Soir.

“It’s fantastic for Eden … I hope he will keep the pleasure of playing and will continue to give pleasure to the fans.

“It’s great how it has not changed over time.”

Speaking on his side’s victory, Martinez said Belgium “imposed our game” on the Kazakhs.

“Everything worked well … we must emphasise the seriousness and concentration of the group,” he said.

“Kazakhstan’s performance against Scotland was very strong but they were not allowed to do what they had in mind.”

Martinez also reserved special praise for Castagne following a series of “very good” performances for the national team.

“He did what I asked him. His job requires a lot of effort, but he did very well,” he added.

Belgium have another home fixture on Tuesday, with Steve Clarke’s Scotland set to visit the Belgian capital.

Mancini expects more from Italy despite 3-0 win in Greece

Italy sit top of Group J as they seek a place at Euro 2020, but the Azzurri coach was not entirely satisfied with the win over Greece on Saturday

Roberto Mancini wanted Italy to push for a fourth goal in Saturday’s 3-0 Euro 2020 qualification win over Greece, but he still believes his side are “ahead of schedule”.

Italy produced a dominant showing in Athens, where a 10-minute, three-goal burst in the first half wrapped up a third victory from as many Group J matches.

Nicolo Barella, Lorenzo Insigne and Leonardo Bonucci were all on target, while the Azzurri also maintained their perfect defensive record.

However, Mancini’s assessment of the display was hardly glowing.

“I don’t think it was our best performance,” the head coach told Rai Sport. “The important thing is that we continued to improve, we did well from the first minute and put the match on the right track.

“The most important aspect now is: why didn’t we score a fourth goal in the second half? We should’ve pushed harder, but at times we sat back and should’ve converted some of the other chances.

“We risked conceding, as Greece nearly hurt us on the counter a couple of times.

“I said we’re ahead of schedule, but still have a lot of work to do. The Nations League didn’t go that badly either, as we were in the running until the last game.”

Insigne’s goal, a neat finish after skipping past Andreas Samaris on the break, was his first for his country in more than a year, leaving the Napoli stalwart relieved.

“I needed a goal, as scoring with this jersey is special,” he told Rai Sport, with Bosnia-Herzegovina up next.

“Above all, we needed the three points and now we have to recover our energy, as there is another battle on Tuesday.

“I think winning that game can be a big step forward towards the Euros, but it’ll be intense, and they need points. If we play the way we did [against Greece], we’ll achieve our objective.

“It’s not just me, as many other players are all working together with the right intensity both in a match situation and in training. The coach is drilling that mentality into us.

“I am happy with the goal, but we’re a good group here and if we are to go far, we need everyone.”

Neymar expected to miss four weeks following injury with Brazil

The Brazilian attacker feared a long lay-off after suffering a nasty-looking ankle injury against Qatar, but doctors have delivered some good news

Neymar will be out of action for four weeks after Paris Saint-Germain doctors revealed the Brazilian forward suffered a ligament sprain in his ankle earlier this week.

The injury occurred during the first-half of Brazil’s 2-0 friendly victory over Qatar on Wednesday, with initial fears suggesting the 27-year-old was set for a long lay-off.

However, via a statement released from PSG on Saturday, it has been confirmed that Neymar will miss just four weeks of action and should be fully fit for the start of the Ligue 1 season.

Paris Saint-Germain’s first team doctor, Dr Laurent Aumont, and the club’s Medical Board member and leading figure in sport medicine, Professor Gerard Saillant, assessed the injury and diagnosed a sprain of the lateral ligament of the right ankle.

The injury does not require surgery, with club officials confirming it will be dealt with via “conservative treatment”.

The former Barcelona forward took to Instagram in the wake of Wednesday’s incident, and captioned a picture of his injury with the word: “After the storm comes the calm.”

Earlier he had exited the Estadio Nacional pitch in a visibly upset state, and was later spotted leaving the stadium on crutches.

Officials from the Brazil national team moved quickly following the injury and confirmed the ex-Santos man would play no part in this summer’s Copa America, which takes place in his home country between June 14th – July 7th.

“After suffering a sprain in his right ankle during last Wednesday’s game against Qatar, Neymar was evaluated and subjected to complementary imaging tests that confirmed ligament rupture in the ankle,” a statement read.

“Due to the seriousness of the injury, Neymar will not have the physical conditions and sufficient recovery time to participate in the Copa America Brasil 2019.”

While today’s diagnosis suggests Neymar might have stood an outside chance of being fit for the Copa America final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro if Brazil make it that far, he will now be given the chance to recover without the need of surgery.

Neymar is currently just three caps short of 100 appearances for his country, but will have to wait to reach that particular landmark.

A history of Shanghai fashion

Shanghai fashion may have evolved over the centuries, but it has till this day always retained its philosophy of being delicate, refined and inclusive.

Before 1843, Shanghai culture was mainly shaped by the culture of the areas in the south of the Yangtze River, namely the regions in today’s Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces which were previously known as the ancient kingdoms of Wu and Yue in Chinese history.

Shanghai-style fashion gradually developed starting in the mid-1900s, influenced by the culture that Westerners brought to the city. For example, traditional Chinese attire such as the mandarin jacket were replaced by Western-style suits and accessories as the city became one of the five ports forced open to international trade following the signing of the Treaty of Nanking by the United Kingdom and the Qing dynasty.

In 1912, the establishment of the Republic of China facilitated the integration of Western and Eastern cultures. A classic look for men at that time comprised a suit, a pinched hat, a cane and glasses with gold frames. The look for women consisted of simple turtleneck sweaters and long skirts or skorts.

As Shanghai became a prosperous, cosmopolitan city in China during the 1920s to 1940s, attitudes toward fashion also changed. Consumers became more discerning and were likely to choose apparel that best matched their age and body shapes. The representative clothing of this era were coats, jackets and cheongsams. People no longer wore traditional Zhongshan suits.

Chinese orchestra performs fusion of traditional folk songs

Zhao Cong, vice-president and the principal pipa player of China National Traditional Orchestra, spent months arranging the Chinese musical piece Full Bloom into a duet for the pipa and the Russian balalaika, both plucked instruments iconic of their countries.

“The piece includes a section of antiphonal music between the pipa and balalaika, which can clearly present the beauty of different folk instruments through contrast, and also highlight the cooperation between them,” Zhao said.

The leading pipa player says that though she has performed on stage along with Western instruments such as guitars and violins, it was the first time she performed the piece with a balalaika player, and she was excited to see the outcome.

“Music itself is the language. Despite the fact that we are from different countries, when we start to play, we can communicate with each other through music,” Zhao said.

The China National Traditional Orchestra performed a concert in the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, on Wednesday, presenting a fusion of Chinese and Russian music and celebrating the 70 years of diplomatic relations between the countries.

Under the baton of conductor Zhang Guoyong, the concert included Chinese folk orchestral works, for example Celebration Overture, and well-known Russian folk songs, such as The Long Road and Kalinka, performed by musicians from both countries.

According to Xi Qiang, Party secretary of the orchestra, the concert mainly focused on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, as well as the deep friendship between the Chinese and Russian people.

“The ambience of the concert was consistently festive. It also featured a diversified format, alternating between duet and ensemble, tenor solo and chorus,” said Zhao Dongsheng vice-president of the orchestra.

Apart from approximately 100 musicians from the China National Traditional Orchestra, the concert was joined by Russian orchestras such as the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Chorus and the Ossipov Balalaika Orchestra.

For the concert, Chinese musicians composed or arranged pieces to embody the cooperation between Chinese and Russian musicians, exemplified by Hand in Hand and Full Bloom.

The orchestra commissioned composer Hao Weiya to arrange Hand in Hand, a composition for the erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument, cello and Chinese folk orchestra. The composition mixes two of the most classic Chinese and Russian folk songs, Jasmine Flower and Oh, Viburnum Blooms.

“The name implies our wish to join hands, make progress and together move to a brand-new future,” said Xi, the Party secretary.

Tang Feng, the principal erhu player of the orchestra, also emphasized the role of music in cultural exchange.

“Music has no language barrier. The expressive power of music can really strike a chord with the audience, which can be proved from the feedback we received in our previous performances in foreign countries,” Tang said.

Xi says it is an honor for China National Traditional Orchestra to have had a rich history of close cooperation with Russia over the past years.

“Our orchestra has performed in Russia multiple times over the years, for instance our performance at the State Kremlin Palace in 2011. We have also staged a Chinese traditional music concert in Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre many times,” Xi said.

“I believe this time, our artists continued to demonstrate the fine traditions of our Chinese culture, our cultural confidence and the characteristics of our traditional music,” Xi said.

Southgate comes to Stones' defence after Nations League blunders

The Manchester City star gifted two goals on Thursday to effectively end the Three Lions interest in the new international competition

England manager Gareth Southgate has leapt to the defence of John Stones after seeing the defender gift victory to Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi final.

Bidding to join Portugal in the final of the inaugural edition of the tournament, England enjoyed a perfect start when Marcus Rashford put them ahead from the penalty spot.

But the Oranje fought back through Matthijs de Ligt’s equaliser before netting twice in extra time to seal a 3-1 win and move forward into the decider.

Stones was at fault for two of Netherlands’ goals in extra-time after being caught in possession well inside his own half; but Southgate refused to condemn the Manchester City star for his lapses in concentration.

“It’s easy to turn round and kill them,” the manager said after the final whistle on Thursday.  “But we have some defenders who are prepared to take the ball in areas where many defenders in the world aren’t, and it’s been the bedrock of how we’ve progressed. We have to continue it but of course we can’t continue to make the mistakes we did.”

On Stones, Southgate said: “He knows I am here to support him.

“I know he is going to get criticism, but he’s had a difficult end to the season in that he was not playing regularly at his club.

“We still think he has been our best centre-back. He has huge qualities and huge potential to be a top player.

“But he has had so little football at the end of the season that the sharpness and fatigue as the game wore on were definitely factors in what has happened tonight.”

The 25-year-old did indeed fall out of favour with Pep Guardiola towards the end of the season, starting just three times from March onwards as City took a domestic treble.

And Southgate admitted that if he continued to be left out of the starting line-up his England place may come under review.

“I think we have to wait and see how that develops,” he added.

“At the beginning of the season he was playing in all the big games. That hasn’t been the case towards the end but it was one of a number of difficult selection issues we had to deal with, really.”

Asked about alternatives to Stones in the Netherlands contest, Southgate dismissed Joe Gomez, noting he had just arrived from the Champions League final with Liverpool, and claimed Michael Keane did not have big-match experience yet.

“He hasn’t played in this sort of game,” Southgate said of Keane. “I think Stones and Harry Maguire are our best two, and I have got to be there to support them in their difficult moments.”

Stones has appeared 38 times for England to date, scoring two goals and representing his nation at the 2018 World Cup.
