WWE News

Last night was the go-home episode of Smackdown Live heading into a decent looking Clash of Champions pay-per-view this weekend. Kevin Owens faced Shinsuke Nakamura in the show’s episode, the Bludgeon Brothers mauled a few more helpless jobbers, and Ruby Riott was in action against Smackdown women’s champion Charlotte Flair.

The biggest news coming out of Tuesday night is that Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon will BOTH act as guest referees at Clash of Champions (LINK), in the bout pitting Owens and Sami Zayn against Nakamura and Randy Orton. Of course, if Owens and Zayn don’t win that match they’ll be “fired” from “all of WWE”, so there’s a whole bunch of interesting scenarios possible in that one. Full 12/12 WWE Smackdown results.

Misc. Wrestling News

– Check out John Heniff’s debut column about the history of pyrotechnics in WWE and why he feels its in the best interest of the company and its performers to bring it back. It’s an interesting read. Heniff will be joining our editorial staff providing a column every single week on ProWrestling.com, plus reviews of each WWE pay-per-view starting with this weekend’s Clash of Champions.

– After an awful year filled with injuries and terrible situations out of his control, Impact Wrestling star DJ Zema Ion is forced to take even more time away from the ring. DJZ is not expected to re-sign his contract with Impact when it expires in early 2018. He’s been off television for quite some time due to injuries, and the company did not fly him in for the last set of TV tapings in Ontario. He was supposed to travel with the crew to NOAH in Japan this month, but it would appear that those plans are now off as well. We wish him the best in recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the ring soon.
